From: someone Philip Linden: Cristiano Midnight: In the new proposed system, who will the sellers be, the current exchanges or direct end users, and how will payouts be handled? Philip Linden: Our thinking is that sellers will be anyone who meets a set of guidelines to minimally avoid fraud, probably meaning a minimum time with SL, and a selling history that suggests that money offerred for sale was obtained legitimately through in-world sa Philip Linden: This seems the only fair approach - there isn't a reason beyond minimizing fraud to restrict the use of such a currency sale system.
Ok, so I've been getting my L$ illegitmately .. I just go buy all the content from my friend who has a valid sales account! Problem solved, Philip! Come on.. you can't stop fraud except by banning people. Getting rid of GOM as a middleman will NOT stop fraud. And I'm sure they'd be more than glad to pull from an xml feed all the people who should be banned from their exchange. Hell, you could just disable their ability to pay into their accounts!

Hell, you could just disable their ability to pay into their accounts! How does this system stop GOM from existing, or being used by customers? You are free to continue to use GOM to buy and sell as you do today. This idea that they can't compete is silly. Now, if refused to adapt and compete, that is a different story, and rests with GOM. Given the fact that it appears they have already picked up their toys and gone home, it seems "they won't compete" is far more accurate than "they can't compete".

In conclusion the only strategy that wins in all cases is that of doing what you want against all adversity, as long as you respect that right in others.

Well, that's my point. YOu stop fraud by banning accounts, not disabling their ability to trade L$.

I think you hire the old ladies at the Home to knit and crochet Lindens for peanuts. Although it is possible to tell hand-knitted Lindens from official machine-made lindens one needs to be an expert to distinguish between them. uh... just joking Actually there are no crocheted Lindens.

From: Zonax Delorean How do you do that? How do you get L$ illegitamely? I roam the grid in a flying pirate ship, looting Tringo pots and plundering club-goers. Sometimes, when I feel daring, I raid SLExchange transport vessels and sell the cargo on SLBoutique. My profits are then buried with "TreasureChest Linden" -- it's the newest L$ sink. (couldn't resist)

If you shut down the exchange of Lindenbucks for USD you'd see a whole raft of thieves just go sail away for greener pastures in a heartbeat. Believe it or not, there are guys out there who really do look to cheat these systems for *real* monetary gain, not just some positioning on a high score table. I mean, for pete's sake, the last guy to stumble across a dupe exploit in EQII said himself he probably wouldn't have continued with it if it weren't handing him such insane amounts of money (he cited between one hundred and two hundred THOUSAND _real_ US dollars in less than one financial quarter from IGE alone).
