I feel bad for posting what is probably a very newbish question, but I've looked at the Wiki page and ... it didn't really help me understand. Part of it, too, is that I really really don't want to screw this up, and I know First Land is a one-time thing. I have two friends, and none of us have bought First Land yet. We will (waiting on one yet to raise their subscription, but anyhoo) all have the premium account and want to buy 3 plots of First Land next to one another for one big plot. From what I understand, we'll actually be able to purchase a little more than that because of the group bonus, correct? (however finding that, what, 150 or so sq. m plot will probably be impossible, even if it's not First Land and expensive.. and even if it wasn't near our 3, a few extra prims might be nice) I digress a little... How do we merge our lands into one, and keep it so none of us is put into a bigger land tier thing and only have to pay the premium account? It's possible for the group to 'own' the land and share prims, etc, but each of us pay the premium account, but no more, right? The part about deeding the land (or the land usage? or...) has me rather confused. Thank you in advance for any replies

Let's see.... helpful definitions: Tier: The cost for the right to own X amount of land. Premium account: 500L$ a week and 512 square meters of tier. Group bonus: 10% more added to all donated tier. Method and madness: Each buys one plot of First Land. Each member associates their plot to the group using the first tab in the "about land" dialog, then checks "allow deed to group" and "owner makes contribution to group". Then the group officer (you'll probably all be officers) clicks the button marked "deed". This transfers the land to group ownership and makes you all donate your 512 tier to the group along with the land. Now any group officer can join the parcels with the land edit tools. The group should be able to buy another 153 meters of land after that. If not, then each member should look at the group's land tab and make sure they've donated all thier teir. Clear as mud? Any officer of the group and abscond with the land any time they choose - so be sure everyone trusts one another before getting into this.

Actually that's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much! And trust isn't an issue at all, but a good warning to have, nonetheless.

By the way, if you buy another 153 m2 of land just to get extra prims, make sure the land is in the same sim as the rest of your land. If the land is in a different sim, you will not be able to use the extra prims on your first land.

I was looking to do something similar with a friend of mind and I found this post right on target with the info that I needed. However there is one thing that still seems a bit fuzzy. How is the land tier fee handled amongst the group members? Any elaboration on this topic would be greatly appeciated. Thanks

Thanks Each member's donated tier is listed on the group membership tab. Each member is charged for that donation plus any tier they hold outide of groups they're members of. If a member leaves the group or revokes thier tier, leaving donated tier less that the land deeded to group, group officers get a warning that more tier needs to be donated to cover land owned by the group. The group needs to either get someone to donate more tier, or drop whatever amount of land will get them back under tier - or a Linden will be along (eventually) to do it for you. There is a grace period, but I'm not sure how long it is.

I feel like an even bigger noob asking this...
so it's possible owning group land without paying tier as long as none of us just get up leave us in dark? And is there a limit of how much land you need before you get group land? my friend and I can't buy more than our first land and we're wondering if that's okay to start a group land with just two people.

You still need to pay tier, just then have to donate it to the group. You do need three people to make a group, but one can be a non-premium alt. Not everyone needs to donate to the group's tier.

Not everyone needs to donate to the group's tier. Our situation is that my cousin and me have 512 sq m each. We plan to make it a group plot and will donate both our 512 sq me of first land. My boyfriend is on basic and we plan to add him to make a group. Question now is do we have to pay tier? and if yes, who? ^^;; I'm not really used to this group land thingy and we're too scared to do it because f the tier fees.

Okay, so you both have a tier allowance of 512 m2 because you have premium accounts. When you deed your land to your group, that allowance will become your tier donation to the group - so the total tier donation to the group will be 1024 m2. (check the 'Make contribution with deed' box before you deed the land to the group, and your tier will switch from your land to the group land at the same time as your land becomes group land - so there's always a balance) Because of the group tier discount, you could if you wished buy another 102 m2 of group land without any additional tier donations to the group. If either of you downgrades to basic and can no longer donate the 512 m2 of tier to the group, then you will have 24 hours approximately to find the additional tier necessary. Either the other person can tier up to 512m2 + 512m2 (an extra $5/month), or another member of the group can upgrade to premium and donate their 512 m2. Hope that helps?

You'll pay tier exactly as you have already been paying (with your premium account). Easy as cake!

As I understand it, 2 donations of 512m = 1024m plus a 10% 'group' benefit. So the 1024 x 1.10 supplies roughly 1126m that the group can now purchase. Which is like going from 234 prims to about 257, also. - Desmond Shang
