This effects the SL economy indirectly, or at least may effect people's suggestions as to what LL should do to solve various economic issues.

According to this article:

http://news.com.com/Second+Life+scores+11+million+in+funding/2100-1043_3-6054598.html?tag=nefd.top

Linden Labs has stated publically that they are not currently profitable.

So for all those that keep suggestioning LL do this, or that, that would reduce the amount of cash flowing into LL from the players -- I'd like to point out that if anything, LL should be increasing the cost of playing...

LL does not "buy" currency, they create it out of thin air.

Yes... I know this, not quite sure why your posting it here.

My point is I have seen many people state that Linden Labs should reduce the cost of the land auctions, or state that things along the lines of "well look at how much they're making with the land auctions, they could do x or y or z" -- many of these statements or suggestions are based on the assumption that LL is profitable, and that they can afford to do things like "buy currency, [rather then] create it out of thin air."

If they're not profitable, then they can't afford to purchase currency from the market. If they're not profitable they should be increasing the cost of the premium membership or limiting the basic membership to encourage people to upgrade to premium -- rather then providing more benefits to existing subscribers.

My personal opinion is that I'd rather see LL do whatever it needs to do to remain in bussiness and continue to provide the platform that I enjoy spending time working with and playing on.

Thanks for bringing that link to our attention, Static. One point that needs mentioning occasionally is that LL is NOT wasting money on big splashy ads like the ones in the major gaming mags. LL appears to be concentrating on permeating the free media channels, and I'd say the effort is working.
