First Land vs. Getting more land....

So I snagged a nice plot in Newman. There's land adjacent to mine, and if it was ever up for sale, I'd rather tier up and take it as opposed to having two different areas of land.

Is a sim with first land in it generally all First Land plots? Or is there some vague hope that I can someday get the unowned land adjacent to mine? IIRC, the land was the purpleish-blue color on the map (auction land?) if that matters at all.

Other than buying $L or saving it, releasing my current plot, then tiering up and trying to get a plot of 1024m2 or more (obviously at a higher price/meter than First Land), is there an "easy" way to get all of my land together?

Not like it's anything amazingly new or interesting, but I have a project idea that would require more than 512m2 and would rather mess with it sooner as opposed to later.

sometimes sims are mostly First Land plots and sometimes it's a mix. you're not allowed to buy more than one First Land plot but there's always the chance someone will buy the one next to you and sell it later. unfortunately the land market is always a gamble and there's no guarantee of getting the spot you want. if you want to get the land you need now your best bet would be to look for a 1024 meter plot for sale rather than waiting and hoping, but waiting and hoping does sometimes pay off. good luck. :D

Here's a short thread that I found very informative on this subject:

There are several other threads with good information in the Land & Economy section but you have to poke around to find them. Search "First Land" or "auctions" and that should do the trick.

When I moved to Palomarian, there were eight "land rush" plots bordering me. The land rush era had just ended and these plots went "forgotten". I finally asked a linden about them and they went up as first land soon afterwards. When they were finally claimed, I was able to buy two of them from the buyers. It was about five months or so before I was able to expand. So, if you really like the area and have the patience, just wait it out and see if you can deal with the new owner. If it doesnt work out, you can sell your place and find a better size in another area. But, in the meantime, an empty lot for sale is better than what could be next door.

as loki said, patience is the important factor when aquiring land. if you like your land in newman, sit tight, save your money, and let your neighbors know that you'll appreciate a headsup when they decide to move. almost everybody eventually moves.

if you buy lindens and win a larger lot in the auctions, you'll have a week to claim the auction land so you'll have time to sell your first land to someone else. don't rely on that money to pay the auction fee; it is charged to you immediately.

Quick Ques - Auction vs Land Sales
02-01-2005 11:54
I just thought of this question while reading these postings and I hope I dont get ridiculed for not starting a new thread BUT... I was wondering what the differences are between Auctions and Land Sales from a cost benefit perspective? I understand that an auction is with bidding and that a land sale has a set price but would it be possible to get a really great deal from an auction - so much so that is well worth looking at auctions exclusively?

And how do you actually bid on a land auction?

(excuse the lame questions, but I am relatively new and my name is Ridiculous).

Yes, Ms Palmerstone it is possible to get a great deal on the auctions. Sometimes a plot has no bidder, or only one bidder (could be you!). It will take persistance to seek out those good deals on the auction site, but they do exist.

Good luck!!

i also live in newman, started the game last week and bought my first piece of land on friday.. the plot next to me was also bought by a dear person , and so we decided to combine our plots to make one big plot so we now have 1024sq, this can be done by and one of the older people correct me if im wrong joining a group which newman has and setting your land to the group, you will still have 512 sq of land but your prim alottment will go up, or u can do what we did and sell our portion to the other so that we have more land... so hopefully u get a neighbor that wants to sell u his land
