I'm an officer of two groups, Group A and Group B. Group A owns a plot of land and a bunch of objects on that land. How to I transfer this plot of land and all the objects on it from Group A to Group B?

I know how to transfer the land. With Group A activated, I mark the land for sale to myself for L$0. Then I activate Group B and buy the land for the Group B.

I know about the "Sell objects with the land" flag on the About Land box. This does not seem to work. The objects owned by Group A before the transfer are still owned by Group A after the transfer.

In this case the objects you want to transfer have to be owned by the landholder ie the group, so you will need to deed all objects to the group, and providing they are transfer enabled permissions they will transfer with the land.

So you'd think, but it doesn't work.

The only way I've found is to firs sell the land to an individual (no group) with the objects, then have the individual sell it to the other group. Objects transfer on Group to Individual, Individual to Group, and Individual to Individual sales, but not for Group to Group sales.

That is correct and is the only way you'll be able to do this successfully. It has something to do with the fact that groups don't have inventory records. Makes no sense; but there you go.

Transferring ownership of objects is a tricky thing in general because of the next owner permissions.

Just be sure that you know what you're doing whenever you deed or transfer because it's very easy to get the object into an unrecoverable state.

For example, if you deed an object to a group and it's next owner permissions do not allow transfer, then the object is essentially stuck with that group. Even worse, there's no way to take a group-deeded object into inventory.

You can get yourself into trouble very quickly.

And even when "sell objects w/ land" works, it is still bound by the permissions system. So, a no transfer object can never be sold with the land, even when it's working.

Just thought I'd mention all of this because people often don't think about the permissions when selling w/ land. But it is absolutely crucial that these issues be understood if you're going to do it.
