Where does the money go for items sold by ex players

I have recently noticed in my Red Dragon market that I have now items on sale from at least one player who has left SL and doesnt reply to IMs. I don't want to delete these things because often the items themselves are good, and if I do they will almost cease to exist in Sl apart from ones already owned.

So?.. my question is... where is the $L people pay for these items going?

If these items were in a multi vendor I could change the key maybe or adopt these things and donate the monies to good Sl causes, but right now I do not know if anyone gets this money, or does it just disappear? Maybe the buyer does not care really its the same to them but its an interesting question as maybe the funds could go to a better result?

What can or might be done to ' adopt ' items created by ex players, and if there is no way should there be one in some cases? I recall how the once Skeedale Skiddoo store stood many many months in Tehama even though the player never came back. I myself own things by ex players and I am sure many do. Is there any way to preserve such items?

Maybe a fund to help new artists and creators from sales of goods by the 'departed'?

No matter what they would have a lifetime account unless they were permabanned....so the money is still going to that players account even if he left for good. I would imagine though that after a certain period of inactivity they might delete an account .

i think that they never actually delete accounts. i know of a couple that were cancelled by the users buy still show up in FIND.

back in the day, we were able to take possession of anything over land that we owned. i'm not advocating that feature; but it would be nice to be able to take things on your land that were owned by inactive accounts. but it's likely one of those ideas that would support collaboration, but also be used for greifing. that puts an absolute nix on it.

the best solution, for future reference, is your idea of using multivendors. even if you let people recieve all their sales amounts, you have the flexibility to change that if they disappear for months on end.

there has been talk of a 'public domain' for SL by a few people, notably cory linden, tho much of it was retracted. As it stands now orphaned objects *ARE* gone forever. Since you don't own the copyright to those objects you can't take them over yourself, that would be stealing, even if it was with the best intentions

Why exactly does someone not logging in give you any right to the money generated by the sale of their items? Will you be repaying the money you stole from them when they return?

Well aren't there two kinds of ex-players? One who had a premium account couldn't pay the bill and one who quit, right? If the one who quit was just a basic plan, then they could come back and find they have a bunch of money. Ones who owed money could come back after they recover from the hard times.

As a premium plan member, I would think I would convert to a basic if I were to ever have to leave SL for any reason.

I guess what I am getting at is there's no way to know if someone is gone for good or temp.
