So i signed up for a paid account on July 1st went for the yearly option, then after hearing from some people about how renting was better than buying i hastily downgraded my account. Linden Labs has already debited my account, so my $72 US has been processed (but of course) But now i'm thinking i would like to own some land....some 512m2 first land at the least with the possibility of getting more here and there. But this pesky downgrade message is making it so that i can't get any. I've contacted LL twice with no response to my situation. What's the next step i should take?

It sounds like you prepaid for a year and then downgraded immediately after? Ugh. I hope LL is reasonable and will reinstate your premium for the year. There is no reason to downgrade until your year is up, you are just giving up the benefits that you already paid for. Even if you decide to rent you shouldn't downgrade until the year is over.

Send LL customer service an email, and then call them on Monday. If you don't like the answer they give you, call again the next day and see if you can get a different answer.

Hi You can still buy land and own it and not be a premium account holder nor pay any tier fees using RL money. Go to:

http://www.azureislands.com

IM the people and have a look around. I am hoping to get waterfront property one day!!

Ring support on Monday and tell them you've changed your mind about downgrading, they should be able to fix the flag, then you can buy land as normal.

You can just set it to premium again, it won't bill you again and will show your subscription ending in a year.

Why would the OP do that? They've already paid LL for the ability to own 512M. They should pay twice?

Also I took a look at that site.... unless I'm understanding wrong, since you're not paying LL any tier, LL isn't going to recognize you as owner of that land. It sounds more like renting than owning.

From: someone
The most important difference is that the land on the Azure Islands is managed by the Azure Islands rather than Linden Lab. All payments are paid to Azure Islands, and the Azure Islands retains the right to revert ownership of a parcel due to either default on ongoing payments, or repeated violation of the zoning regulations.

i wouldnt chance it, i got caught out liek that too (although it was just a months worth of tier) LL should really sort out their billing things a bit more user friendly or somthing or have a warning

Actually it is kind of like renting what they usually do is add you as a member of a group or an officer or something and you pay them a fee in L or thru paypal or whatever. Its usually cheaper then the LL tier and you kind of have ownership power more so then renting. Its odd but it is handy for those that earn L in SL and dont need to have a premium account :)

With all due respect to the AI people, with who I'm pretty friendly, it's just renting by a different name, with different rules and plans.
