I know that there has been a major shift in the value of traffic when LL ceased payments for generating traffic. Yet I am surprised to see many places continuing to have camping. I know traffic generates more traffic, and traffic attracts vendors and higher rent, and a myriad of other benefits, but this doesn't quantify the "value" of traffic. How much is Traffic "worth"? What value can be placed on moving from just below being on the "popular places" list to actually being on the list? Is there a value on moving, say, from 9th position to 4th position on the popular places list?

Well, yes. Exposure.... The less somebody has to scroll to find the information the better...
If you're a Casino with a pool and jucussi and are #7 and another casino is #4, which do you think visitors go to?

That's easy, if you are searching for something and its at the top where do you go first?? Same as Yahoo and Google searches I would think.

There is no doubt that popularity is valuable. What I was wondering was, is there a ballpark figure of how much Linden "popularity" is worth? These people with camping chairs are spending a nice bit of coin, plus there are a lot of events being held. let's assume 10 events a day at 500 Linden each event. 5,000 Linden a day 35,000 Linden a week, 150,000 Linden a month. No 500 Linden for an event is on the low end, and so are 10 events per day by one club. Add camping chairs, and a lot of script is being spent just for popularity. I wonder how much...

The value is there if what you sell is a popular product with a lot of competition. As an example, clothing in SL is pretty big business. If your shop sells similar items that others sell, you want the buyers to come to your place. When your shop is in the top 3 listings you notice about $L10k per day, as an example. But when it's not in the top 10 you see about $L1k per day. That means you could spend up to $L5k per day to keep up traffic and still make 5 times more than you would by not paying out the $L5k to keep up traffic.

There is no standard answer to this question. The value of the traffic totally depends on the business model, and the ability to convert some of that traffic into money. There are so many different business models, and they aren't always that easy to spot either. A club can use their traffic to draw new customers to their land rental deals, for instance. Some can use it to draw merchants to a mall, others may use it to draw customers to their stuff for sale. And some just want to be on that list and can afford it RL. However. there is no doubt that a listing in pop places is far, far more effective to draw traffic than being just below the list. The pop places list is being used a lot. But don't forget classifieds. They can do wonders for business, and may give more bang for the bucks if used with sense. You wanted figures. I bet the figures vary wildly. Some are able to draw quite a bit of traffic without having expenses out of the blue. And I bet quite a few in the pop places list are losing a lot of money on the venture. I personally spend 12-15K on my traffic every day. And to me and my business model, it is worth way more than that, or I wouldn't be doing it. The bulk of my net income comes from sales from some of the visitors I attract with my listing. Some of my stuff is pretty expensive. That allows for a larger marketing budget.
I've spent a year and a half tuning my system, been in pop places almost all of the time. I've tried lots of different things during this period to see what gives me the best income for the money AND TIME (important!) I spend.

It is very impressive what you have done. A few Q's if they aren't too nosy. Did the free slots thing pay off? I take it your business is profitable-but is it a commercial propositon or just pin money? Also, the one time I saw your avatar in the flesh you arrived via helicopter-is that just a bit of fun or is image really important?

Just look at the classifieds..
#1 = L$80000 #2 = L$65000 #3 = L$55000 #4 = L$45000 #5 = L$45000
Big jump between #1 & #2
