Yowza! Anyone notice both the number and price of IW land parcels for sale? The number available is the highest I've ever seen (around 4,200 last time I checked) and the prices are among the lowest per M that I've ever seen.
Damn. The land market ain't what it used to be.

Yeah, but given SL's churn it will recover as always. Probably going to be hard for land sellers in the short term however. (Good news for new users and other buyers though)

I apologize for spooking you Vitrina.
I'm just joshing people that give me flack about calling land use fees "taxes." One of them was likely to post (jokingly) that we were alts before the day was over.

I think there has been a trend for prices to drop on the mainland. The glut of land on the New Continent without the telehubs, the glut of other land on the auctions in LL prices, and the new island deeded lalnds have all made land on the mainland not price as high.
Some people are trying to sell their land because they want private islands, they think the dream of living without lag, griefing, and idiot box builders is close at hand. Others are fed up with overall problems in SL and just want to tier down and get out.
I still see lots of land for 9.5/meter if it is prime flat waterfront mature. I've bought and sold that type of land for 8.5-9.5. I also see some great deals at 6, and found prime flat mature waterfront even for 5 the other day. Depends on whether there is someone trying to cash out.
The lowering of the rate of the GOM didn't reflect in land prices at first -- then it did. That's what we're seeing now, that bounce.
Will prices stop dropping? Only if the Lindens stop putting as much on the auction and if the private island gluts out -- and that will work only if newer people begin to turn to 1024s and 2048s from their 512s. We might see people start to pick up lower priced mainland land which will bring up prices again but not right away.
Rather than wait for another August crisis (this time it could be the reverse of last August's crisis), the Lindens should have some kind of contingency planning.
That crisis could be a real bottoming out of the land market, with land barons deciding they just don't want to hold tier on land they can't sell, and letting it go for $1/meter. We already see some of that.

Oh what a beautiful dream that would be!! If I were a praying man, that's what I'd pray for.
