Do you have to turn your US money into Euros to pay for your US Federal taxes?!? Thats what Linden Lab makes us do already to pay sl taxes. Linden Lab doesnt accept its own currency for the taxes it CURRENLTY has ... like Tier and purchasing of islands and land. In fact, Anshe Chung was banned for a day because she didnt have the US dollars in her account, though she had MORE THAN enough Lindens to cover her tier. The Lindens shut down the largest empire for a day, because the government does not hold any worth in its own currency. If you ask me, this is what needs to change to stop the inflation. Would you like to change your US money into Euros to pay the US government? HOW would that make you feel? What would the US dollar be worth to you then?
Being a Land Baron myself, I have only gone through the Lindex ONCE in ten months because the interest on my 14% credit card in rl is less than the loss I would take through the Lindex. (And I get to be proud that Im not contributing to the inflation) This being said, my account in sl is piling up, where everyday I have about $2K USA dollars in it and in order to buy more land, I have to spend more US dollars. So I ask you, Who REALLY is holding that US money that sits in my sl account?

Find me a server farm that will accept linden dollars. Find me a bandwitch provider, employees, and utilities that will accept linden dollars. THEN we can talk.

Nevertheless, she has a point. If nothing else it would be a huge symbolic gesture, and SL business owners would probably be more willing to hold more land. Of course LL employees etc. won't get their salaries in $L, LL would immediately cash out the $L they get for tier/accounts/etc. on the open market. This would be a big and constant $L influx into the Linden Exchange, but then theoretically the landowners would either have to buy the $L back to pay tier again. Supposing they didn't, and the $L just sat in market, that would mean $L would be that much more scarce within SL, thus making the value even out.
In other words, there isn't really an economic reason why LL accepting tier in $L would change anything either way, but the mere act of them showing confidence in the currency should raise everyone else's confidence in the currency, raising it's value.

If $L were accepted by SL, then the Lindens would have to convert them back to USD. That would result in the owners of SL playing the exchange market, which would cause a whole other host of problems.
One man's opinion.

The idea of accepting tier payments in L$ is, in my opinion, excellent!
If LL were to take payment in L$, they would have a vested interest in the sale of L$ for US$...and a vested interest in the stabilization of the Lindex.

Personally, I would LOVE to be able to pay for my account with the money ON my account in LindenEx. I'm not in America, so I cannot use PayPal and, while I make enough to pay for the account, it's not really worth getting a cheque cut yet.
Lindens, any chance of this happening?
I think I understand the reasoning behind it, but... well.. I kinda don't. What's the difference between me cashing in lindens at Lindenex, getting you to cut me a cheque, depositing that cheque into my bank, then paying for my account with that very same cash you just paid me and just paying for my account with the money on Lindenex? The only real difference is time and money to do the former.
Dunno... just makes sense to me.

There's plenty of people who'll happily rent you land for L$, why not just rent off one of them if it bothers you so much?

I agree with AJ. I currently rent in EverLite. Good rate, and there's space aplenty left.
Besides, some new neighbors would be welcome.

If LL accepts L$ as payment, it will go bankrupt. And there will be no more SL.

Back when I started in SL you actually could pay all or part of your tier in L$. Problem was the exchange rate was horrible so no one ever used it and it was eventually removed as an option.
