From this announcement, does anyone know what "Improved ability to buy land and currency inside the Second Life client" means?

Unless someone out there has had a sneak peek, we probably can't do much else than speculate.

I'd guess that they're attempting to create an in-game currency buying method similar to the Land Sales tab, without having to visit a website.

But just a guess :D

It would be great if they just have it asking if you want to buy money for the land or item purchase when you don't have money instead of the dialog saying go to this page to buy money. :) I know its not that complicated as it is, but the more steps you take out of the process, the more people use it. Every now and then I run into a person that can't figure out the Lindex page. Some people see all the numbers and graph and freeze saying they don't know what to do next. If they just have to click a button that says Yes buy money, problem would be solved.

This was their original idea. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the case.

What would be even better is if there were a USD price entry box in addition to the L$ price entry box. This way we could accept one or both forms of payment. The ability for residents to transact land sales directly in USD with no need for L$ would be HUGE for the economy.

This seems fair and reasonable to me as LL is able to sell land for USD themselves. Why not make it easier for residents to also use the land sales platform in more robust and powerful ways?

Because then Uncle Sam has to tax you in robust and powerful ways.

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

Yes. We have greatly simplified the process of buying land from within the viewer. With a single window you will be able to:
1) upgrade your membership if necessary
2) upgrade your land tier if necessary
3) purchase any additional needed L$ from LindeX
4) buy the selected parcel

Also, with a single window you will be able purchase L$ from LindeX from within the viewer.

Cheers,
Lawrence

Thanks for the itemized reply Lawrence. Something to look forward to and, I think, a reason to wait until later this week to sell lindens.

What would be even better is if there were a UKP price entry box in addition to the USD and L$ price entry boxes. While we're at it, why not add a Euro box as well, and Yen and Canadian $ and.. and...

Or hey, here's an idea.. what if everyone used L$ ?

I am glad to see this being implemented. It may just give the $L the 'shot in the arm' people have been looking for.

As far as direct USD pricing.....that creates quite an accounting nightmare for LL IMO.
It also opens the floodgates of liability for both users and LL. For large ticket items from unknown users, I have recently switched my preference from accepting Paypal to $L. If they do a chargeback (Paypal or CC), I am not the one left holding the bag.
