Alright! I want a clean fight!

Oh wait, y'all don't know what you're fighting about. I'm only posting to this thread once then I'm leaving it up to you to fight over it!

How can you seriously think SL has an economy? There's no supply and demand! Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought those were basic things that every economy needs to survive. The only supply and demand system SL has is that users demand something and creators supply an unlimited amount for extreme prices.

How can there be an economy if there's an unlimited supply of everything?

Aaaand *DING* FIGHT!

You are wrong :)

This message was brought to you by the Discordian Church of Kallisti.

Besides, there is not an unlimited supply of land, script execution time, asset storage space, bandwidth, talent and man-hours in SL.

This economy is a strange one, to say the least. You are most certainly correct in that it's not based on analogues of real life resources.
This one is based on the relative scarcity of the combination of creative idea and skill to bring that idea to fruition, with a dash of time-as-resource for flavor. Value in this economy is purely in the eye of the beholder.

Some folks add another layer of artificial scarcity in the form of dropped product lines and limited runs.

No one bought a helicopter, airplane or Viper ( ;) ) from me because they lacked the prims, animations, textures or even scripts. But that particular combination of prims, animations, textures, and scripts that is the UH-1 Phase 5 sells appeals to folks who either have no interest in taking the time or learning how to make one themselves.

So, an economy exists wherever there are folks trading value for value - whether that value is purely perceived or enforced by survival is a bit beside the point.

Sure there is. There's a supply of unique content, and a demand for unique content.
