One thing I never understood.. people who buy those 100% under water plots, then cover the entire parcel with prim land..

So many of these nice, and right now every expensive, 8192m2 ocean front plots usually have a 1024m2 or so chunk between the shore plot and the edge of the sim. You buy a nice plot, then some putz comes in buys the little parcel on the end, covers all the water with a prim lawn.. Have these people have no taste?!? What draws people to those plots? Price? Location? *sighs*

And don't get me started on the land barons who sell the shore front property.. wait until someone comes along buys it.. THEN puts that little extra chunk up for sale so some idiot can come in and build their eyesore.

</rant>

Note: I don't actually own any ocean front property.. I was looking to, but after careful observation, I don't know if I want to unless I can find an edge of sim plot or one with some surrounding protected land.

I'm not sure how many times this will need be said, but: If you want to keep the view, you're going to have to buy it.

ALL ugly property devalues. Water has nothing to do with it.

What ppl build is up to them as long as they are paying the tier. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As is there right..

As for what draws them there, they get a sea view without the beach prices..

It may currently be their right, but what you-all and more specifically LL need to understand is that "rights" and resulting activivities like this are what put me, and likely many other potential customers, right off buying any land in LL. I'll stay landless, with the ability to avoid looking at the eyesores.

I guess they want to get their money from Anshe and the other Island Magnates instead of Premium accounts. :)

Have you ever considered that if you actually owned land, you might also be a contributor to the beastly detritus in the area as well?

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be surprized if LL actually prefers exactly that. When Anshe gets an island, LL gets enough money to purhcase another server. And they have a single point of contact for issues, billings, user support etc. They deal with 1 person, not 20, 30 or 50 people each paying seperate tier.

They have a single CC Charge to an account, and have to pay associated CC fees only once, not dozens of times for individual land teir payments.

People like Anshe and the other large land owners help reduce LL costs of doing bussiness and increases their profit margins.

In theory, when new sims come online rather then just LL doing First Land every now and then -- they could cut up sims and sell them off piecemeal just like the Anshe, but LL probably feels that the cost of having an employee dedicated to that isn't worth the it. Same reason why they're usually not all that quick in getting the smaller abandonned plots, or land from old accounts (or accounts with overdue tier) back onto the market -- a paid employee has to spend time on that.

Actually, this is brilliant. I can't imagine how sophisticated land barony must be.

Oh don't get me wrong, when I finally realized what was happening after watching the way new sims came online and were slowly being sold, I too thought it was genius. But at the same time, I learnt a valuable lesson from it. :) Play extra attention to what land is left and who the owner is because it could be for sale after you buy in.

So if they did impose rules, that nothing ugly could be built, you got land, built something, how would you feel if they came along, ripped it down and said it wasn't "pretty" enough?

I think not being able to build what they want would put a lot MORE people off owning land than not having the perfect view.

If LL don't mind having an employee on the other _other_ coast, they can hire me to
zone and subdivide new sims... I need a new computer, and can't afford one right now (and there's the little prob of room in the office -- my roommate's desktop lives there), but a good laptop with enough RAM and a good graphics card would work. If they'd advance enough for me to get a laptop from CompUSA, and take something out of my check every week, I'd be happy to do that gruntwork.

Of course, I'd have to be able to zone the sims reasonably.... I think one commercial-only sim surrounded by 8 sims, half residential-only, 2 public use (1 permanent sandbox/1 public gardens) and 2 mixed commercial/residential would be a fair balance.
