Would someone be kind enough to direct me to the correct location within the forums. I'm sure it's been discussed, just can't seem to find it. I wanting to "Rent some land to a friend with a basic account. Need help in knowing what switches to throw or buttons to push that makes this happen. Thanks

There are no switches to throw, but the buittons to push are the group land buttons.
Create a group that includes yourself, your friend and an alt (you need 3 members in a group to make it stick), then set the land parcel to group ownership and ask your friend to pay you for it each month. _____________________

How to rent land to someone:
Tell them "hey, you can stick prims on my land so long as you pay me money!" Have them stick prims on your land and pay you money. That's about it, really. Now, if your land is group-owned and you use the "auto return" setting, you'll probably want your renter to be a member of that group so their stuff doesn't get bounced. _____________________

Get him to create a group in which he is an officer, and make you a member, and deed it to that group.. All officers will be able to edit the land.. On the mainland.. You can just let him use it and set things to what he wants.. OR... You can do the same as above, only adding tier to the group.. BUT all officers of the group its deeded to will be able to sell/make off with/release the land.. _____________________
