I'm still debating on whether to go up to a premium account or not.
I've been watching First Lands over the last couple days and it seems the new land is being opened on the southern continent right now.
I'm also noticing that none of the new land is coastal. How often is first land offered on the coast? There's a segment of new land that's at the edge of the sim, but there's no way to know if the new sims added later will be coastal, or just more land.
Since coastal land is pretty valuable, is it ever offered as First Land or is it always reserved under some auction system?
Thanks.

In the five months I've been in SL, I've never seen coastal First Land... Doesn't mean it isn't out there, but I'm guessing LL prefers to get premium "cash" for coastal land.

Shamless plug! Try AzureIslands (look at my sig) you don't need to be premium to own land there. Tones of coastal too

How much actual coastal mainland is being created at all now? I mean, guaranteed coastal land here, not just the edge of a sim where a new one next to it might appear at any time.

Geuis:
Two points:
1. If you can buy a first land parcel on the coast, do so. But first check to see if a newly added sim could contour the coast out of existence (remember, new sims can be contoured to +/- 100 meters). Now, since LL is the only one that offers true first land parcels, all of them are on the mainland and they probably will not suddenly create a new sim that destroys the "view". Post your question on the Linden Forums so that a LL employee will respond.
2. Go ahead an upgrade to a premium account. And if you can afford to, pay upfront for the entire year. Why? Because you receive a discount when you pay 12 months up front. It costs US$ 72 versus US$ 119.88 when paid month to month.
Since premium accounts currently receive 500 lindens per week, that equals 26,000 lindens you will receive over the course of the year. Even if the Linden fell to 361 to the US$, you would break even on your premium membership. In other words, it will cost you nothing. Of course, you will probably end up spending many of those Lindens in-world, but paying for a full year upfront is a great deal.
