Strange Money Sink Idea

Imagine this: Content creators who wish to participate make a few items. These items are sold at "The Money Sink Mall" at very reasonable prices. Maybe nothing can be sold for more than 100L, with most items 50L or less. All after-tier proceeds are used to buy classified ads which promote the store, so a large percentage of the lindens collected at the store end up removed from the economy.

Content creators would get two benefits for participating:

1) Promotional: the items they sell there would be loss leaders and could be bundled with landmarks and notecards about their other products available at their main stores. This would be similar to how some people use freebies.
2) A money sink which would offset the growth of the money supply, making the lindens they do earn over time worth more.

The one downside I see to this is the level of trust in the owners of the mall. Are they really taking all the proceeds and putting them into advertising?

For me to use such a thing it would almost have to be Linden run. There are very few residents I would be willing to trust to use the money as promised.

Yeah, I agree Darkness. I actually started thinking about it in relation to the freebies that are given away by LL. Perhaps a linden can create the Money Sink Mall.

open-accounting between the mall owner(s) and the vendors? a monthly statement on a notecard to all vendors, with everyone's numbers (so everyone can compare and doublecheck for errors or fraud) - that way, if everyone can confirm their payouts, everyone's then getting a fair shake...

and if the vendors share the duty to confirm on promotional activities, they would know their money's being well-spent.

sensible? or non-sensical?:)

Sounds good, but still i think the lindens should do it. Less head ache for all, and the money will go straight back to where it came from without anyone being tempted.

The only drawback to having a Linden do it is that I'm not sure they would do the weekly classified ad. And that exposure of the ad might help make it worth doing.

I'd take part for the free advertising. (provided I could slip in a notcard advertising my main store)

I don't care about the money sink thing though, the declining Linden doesn't bother me for a whole bunch of reasons I'll not post in this thread because it would start another pointless discussion.
