Ok. I have a rather odd question. Perhaps I should be directing this to the Lindens and not to the general forum. But perhaps it is a question that should be asked anyhoo. Who actually "Gets" that 25L I have to pay to rate Alby for his uber cool painted rainbow? Does it dissapear? Does it go into the SL social Security fund? Does it get secreted into Phillip Lindens super secret Bahama Vacation fund? Where exactally does that money go? Was not even interested when it was a measly 1L..But..Seeing as how they have raised the price of admiration by 2500% I have grown suddenly curious. Think about that 2500%..What if gas did that? Would you ask? Any responses positive or otherwise would be appreciated.
Feel free to move if this is not the appropriate venue. Is a bit off topic I suppose.

The economy needs "sources" (where money pops out from) and "sinks" (where money flushes out).
The money from ratings is a sink. No one recieves it. it's just gone.

So if this money is just "Gone"....whats the point of charging $25L in the first place? How is that economy....sounds like waste to me.

From: someone Does it get secreted into Phillip Lindens super secret Bahama Vacation fund You wish. If anyone deserves to get tanned and rested after all the recent server ordeals, it's Phil. As I've asked in other threads: what are the checks and balances that prevents this from happening? What are the oversight bodies? And why this "sources" and "sinks" stuff? It sounds like Soviet stuff to me. Like they use to have those things called "cashless accounts" which weren't really money, but just exchanges of credits or points between factories or enterprises. Real economies don't "sink" that kind of money that is supposedly for the drain on their server. What they do with those taxations amounts of $10 or $25 is simply curb user behaver like electric cattle prods. *Ouch* Ok OK Phil I won't strain your server with my 10th upload of Ralph Lauren fabric jpegs *ouch ouch ouch* ok ok. It's not part of any real economy.

More money is created than is destroyed, so you can think of it as ALL the money that would be destroyed is recycled and added to and returned to the system. The amount of extra money added should be in direct proportion to the number of players joining Second Life. If it isn't, the exact amounts going in an out need to be tweeked in a place or three. At that's exactly why these latest changes were set in motion... Too much money was entering the system, unbalancing the economy, albeit slowly. Event subsities were slashed because doing so doesn't unbalance the economy. (Though it WILL cause many people to rethink their activities, hence a lot of outrage.) The price to rate and the bonus received from ratings were both adjusted together to keep that system balanced. If only one changed, it would have been damaging. As it is, the increase to the cost to rate affects both poor and rich, though the poor will feel it more. The stippend cut will affect the more highly rated players far more than it will the newer players. As "new" usually goes with "poor", and "rich" usually goes with "old", that trade off takes most of the potential money from the rich, where it doesn't hurt as much. On the personal side, I've been around long enough to be in the top 2% of the ratings charts, so I get a bonus of L$750 each week. My week-change bonus fluxuates through the whole range of tiers. This change means I will make L$375-L$750 less each week. I will contine to rate just as I did before (since I only rated when I really meant it, and never trip-rated "just becase" so I'll lose more money through that. Over-all, the whole system of ratings costs and rating bonuses will probably balance out for me with almost as much going out (to rate people) as comes in (as bonues from my ratings).

If everyone had a bazillion L$, people would charge L$1,000,000 for crappy work.
This is why L$ is removed from the economy. It's also why your local government doesn't hand out free cash.

Well thanks for the inane commentary...Thats what I get for asking for positive and negative..Some always mistake that for "Post somthing stupid and chuckle to oneself for being genetically superior to the common intestinal flatworm" but..Meh..I'll give ya the benefit of the doubt and look in the forums for anything even approaching a non egoinflating mentally masturbative remark and post a public apology if I find one. Glad I got some real answers before yours. Have a really crappy day. Thanks for the real clarification everyone..I tend to see the worst in the most innocent of things. I shall endeavor to not balk at an honest rate now.

Thanks for the real clarification everyone..I tend to see the worst in the most innocent of things. I shall endeavor to not balk at an honest rate now. What part of my post offended you? It was just basic Economics 101. EDIT: You can see examples of this kind of inflation in many countries of the world, including Italy and Japan. A simple restaurant meal can cost tens of thousands of their form of currency.
