since LL has been in the business of selling L$ as stipends at the risk of drastic in world inflation (staved of only due to explosive growth in population), and is now considering doing it in a more direct manner to control the price of the L$, shouldn't it also take the idea of buying L$ seriously, perhaps much more seriously? particularly the ones they give away in the millions each week?

No way. Here's why:

This will never happen. If LL were to begin buying back currency, then every L$ issued and currently in circulation would become a balance sheet liability. On the bright side, they could use that to reduce their tax bill, but I doubt their backers would find an additional $2M in liabilities (with potentially unlimited downside potential) palatable.

And props to Elror Gullwing for the excellent addendum to my post.

ricky,

come on you know as well as i do that the L$ is the con game. LL has set up a conflicting definition between the TOS - worthless data - and the post 1.2 social definition - a currency - to exploit at their discretion.

solicit content creators - L$ is a currency. you can use it as a proxy for usd to sell content.
solicit residents - L$ is data, here, you don't have to visit the lindex, have some for free.
