Well something is wrong and it is not the stipends. Now lets look at the numbers. L$682,853,993 sounds like a lot but is it really? There are supposed to be 228,348 active residents. This makes the money supply to L$2,865 per resident. The money increase is so far this month is 42353503. This comes out to an increase of 185 lindens per active resident.

The Linden has fallen 12 percent this month (as of 5:41pm LDT) but the money supply has increased 6.2 percent and if the increase in the number of residents is factored in even less. There is something else going on. The traders of Linden have look at the figures. The lack of demand is not due entirely to inflated supply

The really steep loses have been over the last week at 8.3 percent while the supply has increased 1.5%. Don’t blame the Premium residents and stipends! The loss is coming from the trading. If I was a betting person someone wants the Linden to fall. Perhaps someone that has sold short a large number of Lindens, but who?

While I too have heard this said before, Linden Lab has since clarified that this is the number of residents who have signed up. The active resident count (signed on within the past 60 days) is closer to 103,000. I'll look for the forum post where they stated this.

Update: the active resident count is 113,606. This is from the Economic Statistics page.
