You old timers are giggling because you already knew the Lindens don't care about your property if you don't technically own the prims. It doesn't matter if you paid a lot of money for someone else to build your infrastructure. Prims are what counts, not morality. Own your prims, even if it's your best friend building your infrastructure. I've learned that the hard way today.

What do you mean? elaborate? explain? I'd rather not, would only cause more drama. Just don't trust anyone who builds anything for you. Make sure you own the prims. That's all I'm going to say.

So you're saying you paid somebody to build you something without them sending it to you so you own it and they deleted it?

From: Macphisto Angelus Steve this sucks! I did see the o.p. where you mentioned what happened. I am sorry this happened to you. :/ Just goes to show that 1) you can't trust everyone and 2) ownership and possession are nine tenths of the law. If you own a prim, it's YOURS. Ownership trumps morality or trust, but I'll get over my bitterness.

I would suggest that when you have something built for you Steve and they repeatedly asked you to take possesion of it you do. I dont feel sorry for you at all, you chose your path.

What Steve is trying to say but he cant is this...
When someone does your building, make sure the prims are transferred over to the owner of the property. If not, the person can be upset with you and make an irrational decision and delete your building.
In Steves case, he had a mall with thousands of products from customers displayed. Because the person deleted his mall (buildings) and owned the prims they deleted, even tho payment is rendered, Linden would not (as far as I understand) restore his sim to original condition. The builder owns the prim and therefore can remove it. period.
Sorry Steve, as I said in game, holler if there is something I can do for you. Take care. Xplorer Cannoli

Interstingly, I did the opposite, with my (so far) one commissioned build, but, that's for a reason. I'm still employed there, and will make any changes needed to the building. I leeve it all locked, and only effect what I need, like moving a single copy of one prim, to create a quick store sign for a renting merchant.(odd angle and size to fit the doorway, so I did it for them, then sold them the sign to texture) I retain ownership, because the land owner can make mistakes and broke a few things while we were still in the middle of contstruction. also it eases adjustments, as they are needed. If asked I'd sell them the building in a heartbeat, assuming it will all link together into one object, to sell them. So while yes, it's better/safer financially, if you own the building you commisioned to get built, it's not quite "period" there are other considerations. If the building it set, no adjustments needed wanted, expected, ever, or the buyer is perfectly capable of making those adjustments themselves, by all means, pay and close the deal, end of story. In that case, if I were called back, I'd be inclined to charge for tech support. Of course, I'm not planning to build for anyone I don't like. the building become obsessions until I'm satisfied with their completion. I don't know the tale, and I'm sure it's an unfortunate one, but I will disagree with "period" Also, Xp is a friend and if asked, I'd help as much as I could. Though I'll be the first to say, I'm not the best to build an entire mall. and I get carried away with details, also not good for a huge build like that.

Anytime you hire someone to build something for you, you should *always* request the object(s) be transferred to you, as well as retaining a backup copy in your inventory.
Make sure to specify these in the terms before you hire your builder.

One of the issues here is the lack of a "transfer all objects" feature at the parcel level. It's easy to get a custom house made, consolidated and sold for L$0, but wat about entire parcels or regions that a custom builder is hired to complete? It would be quite an arduous task to "sell" all of the objects. In some cases, like with complex watrfalls an landscaping, wo knows how many drag-select attempts would be necessary to set all the objects into a state for transfer.
What is needed is a Parcel level dialog for non-landowners that allows them to "Sell Objects" like a landowner can with "Sell All Objects with Land". Commissioning large-scale thrid-party builds could be made easier and safer this way for both parties. As for the subject "I'm still working on it", the land owner could always temporarily give a builder "Modify Rights" for touch-ups. Even with great tools like Rez-Faux/Rez-Foo, not every custom build can be simply "boxed up". We need a wa to transfer objects at a more macro level.
