Hello i'm writing this post because i'm living in france and most of peoples in my country never heard about of second life , i actually work for a big company that sales video games and i was wondering something ...

Why not to sale second life in boxes like another game, the player would buy the box with a code inside that would make him able to try a week the game.

Second could find a lottttttttttttt of players in france because most of peoples are against to pay to play for a game, but as you maybe know online games are the most wanted games in shops, Second Life is the only game the gives the right to create everything, so i thought that i would be a very good idea to put SL in video games magasine live Joystick, we have a video game channel in france too named GAMEONE (www.gameone.net)

My only wish is to see more peoples from all over the globe in sl and make big communities.

but for this internet isn't enough in europe if you want to be really known

the compagny i work for as a video game saler is named Micromania (www.micromania.fr) and i often see peoples that come to ask " do you have a game like SIMS but online , free, and make the player able to move a lot.
When i answer them, you should try second life, they say that if we don't have it in boxes it's that it's just a lil game that probably stop to run...

well i stop bothering you guys, think hard about this, and you should plan to create a multilanguage interface 40 % of french don't read and speak well english so i guess that's a lil the same in other countries.

on these words i wish a long life to second life ; )

bye

Actually, if you email support and ask them to send you 10 SL CDs, then they will! Maybe you could contact a higher person to ask for more to hand out in your store. I think that's a great idea for SL to get more people.

As an European myself - and one that is involved in the complex task of translating part of the documentation, and adding much vaster manuals for beginners - I can understand your problems very well :) The multilanguage interface will be a reality in a few months, I expect - although it will be a trouble to mantain for the support staff. We'll see what happens.

Althought you can contact LL to get you CDs with Second Life, Linden Lab currently doesn't want an exponential growth of their platform - by having distributors sell CDs all around the world - but a controlled, linear growth. This is as yet targetted to a small, knowledgeable audience of users - and not as a mass media product for everybody. After all, the appeal of Second Life as a "game" dwindles fast when a new user understands that SL is more hard to master and requires "real life" skills than a "normal" MMORPG or online FPS. So, people willing to use Second Life are - "different" than "normal" MMORPG/FPS users. I guess the marketing team of Linden Lab has found out about that a long time ago and they prefer to target their market through "word-of-mouth". That way, it's probably easier to get a large group of users who are really interested in Second Life - and not just people who wish to connect, try it out for a few hours, and leave, disappointed that they can't shoot monsters or something.

With around 30% of the population being non-US, I think that SL is pretty well established both in Europe and elsewhere. And yes, LL has talked about extending the grid to other parts beyond California. I'd think they'll do an East Coast grid before they do an European grid, though. Setting up an European grid will mean internationalization for SL - which is rather a big step for a small company - or getting a strong agreement with a like-minded company, which is not easy. SL is not only different as a VR platform, it has a company behind it which also thinks very differently than the "entertainment companies" that promote other MMORPGs and similar "games".

Once in a time there was 1.000.000 Swedes imigrating to USA..:-))) ca 1900...a lot Dutch people to..and English people.. and we are coming now again.. in cyber... wake up Linden Lab...

***

The simpliest solution are to do as we all/most have.. fill in the tryout.. and start...

We dont need a special grid we mix us with all other and this will be more fun than IRL... we will all learn more to and will have easier to understand other people from other countries..

Anshe (http://www.anshechung.com/) has Sims with special themes.. ask her.. I am from Sweden and lives in Dreamland. its a part of her Sims.. my closets friends are from al over the SL/Real World and that the great thing with SL...

AND I am learning new cultures and new words every day.. my BF in Sl are Dutch.. my I learn a lot.. and have fun at the same time!!

Poke Bub Linden, he's got some shiny SL CD's, which he was sending out for free a while ago. :)
