Buying Islands off of LL

I'm interested in knowing details about how LL responds to Island purchase requests. Feed back from island owners would be welcome.

It does say in the FAQ it can take 2 weeks or more, but I am curious as to what the average experience in days that people actually receive their islands. And how LL has communicated progress to you.

Thanks!

Hi Snakeye,

From sending the initial request to first response acknowledging the request can be as low as a few minutes, assuming the Linden in charge at the time is watching his/her email. Otherwise you're looking at a next day response.

From there the request is passed onto the hardware guys. If they are not particularly busy and you just want a 'basic' sim with no custom terrain, then it may take a further 1 or 2 days to bring your sim online. I believe they then let it run for a day to ensure stability befor contacting you to say it's ready, (though I may be corrected on this).

So as a minimum I'd put 4 (working) days on the process, which has been my experience in the past.

The addition of custom terrain and a high workload for staff could easily drag this out to the full 2 weeks as quoted on the web site though...

Put my order in on the weekend. Got a call to confirm today (Tuesday, which is really only 1 business day later), and they say the island could be up and running today.

Staff friendly and helpful as usual. Nothing but good experiences with them.

Sue.

I have a few friends trying to start an island, and they've been suffering a different experience. It takes them days to get any sort of response. The first email they sent expressing interest in an island wasn't responded to for almost a week, and they're STILL trying to get their island together. This is probably three weeks after the initial email. They did want a custom feature, but then LL responded by saying they could easily just do that with the terrain tools.

It's been painful for them, to say the least. Currently they're in yet another 2-3 day period of hearing no response to their latest email.

So really, your mileage may vary greatly with this process. Have patience in hand, and I strongly recommend doing whatever you can over the phone if possible.
