Heya All, I registered last year in August, and I played for a few months and then took a nice 5 month break and came back to the game.

Well When i originally played I used a premium account so i was never worried aobut L$

So now that I ahve reacticvated I have little over $50 per month. I thought "Hey, Why dont I go meet some new people and hope they rate me while we;re chatting!"

Well Little did I know, Ratings cost $25 per now!

Why did it change?
When did it change?

It kind of sucks to be on a basic account with no way to make any money except making items :( I dont have that much time to be making so many items myself, I just want to come to sl and plop down and have some fun.

But I cant participate in many things with the measly amount of L$ Recieved.

Also, In my account history I got:

Basic Stipend
Delta Total
Rating Total

What is delta total?

Thanks all!

Back in January there were several changes made, one of which was the hike in cost for a rating. In addition, any ratings you have that are over 6 months old will disappear and therefore you will receive less per week, although the basic stipend of 50L for basic and 500L for premium accounts are the same.

The other major change was that funding for events was stopped. Now the only people who get funding are those who run classes.

Alexa

PS you get 50L a week on a basic account, not per month.

You only get the L$50 if you have logged in at least once duing the week...

Oh Sorry hehe, That was a typo thanks for catching it...

Was there a reason as to Why they changed it?

So If 6 month old ones are deleted....I should be getting less and less L$ every week?

LL were concerned about inflation and the L$/US$ exchange rate.

And yes you are right, your rating part of what you are paid every week will go down.

Unless you get more ratings this week than you had the week exactly 6 months ago :D

Rating Cost

I think SL is a pretty cool game but I think having to pay 25 for each rating, or any for that matter is a bit excessive. We don't get 25 L more each week for each rating we get, do we? If I were to get 3 ratings what does SL give to me for getting those ratings? Why does it cost to give a rating anyway? (Would be nice to have an incentive to pay for a premium account) It it a big struggle to get enough money together to have much of anything in this game and to have to pay $115 US for enough Linden to have land, is out there. I'm in trouble as it is with the hubby. LOL

WTF are you talking about, $115 US? That would buy you almost $L29,000. IAm I the only one that is missing her point here?

Suggest you take a look at Hiroland...that money would rent you a big plot for a few months or a smaller plot for a lot of months :-).

And I think having to pay for stamps when mailing a letter is too... but that's just me.

Not 25L, but you *do* get something. By the way, I thought ratings was all about appreciation, not getting paid for them. Sounds like someone wants to game the system..

Well, if they'd cost 0, then some people out there trying to game the system would just ask all their friends to rate them.. even non friends. Heck, That was the case when it cost 1L.

I thought the incentive for premium accounts was being able to hold land.

I've got like 3,000 L's right now, by sheer savings. I've got many things, and yes I've bought like 40 dollars worth on L's since I arrived in September 2004.

I think your ambitions exceed your possibilities. That happens alot in first life. I'm sure it happens in second life too.

No doubt about that! ;)

Well, as a newbie I'm very happy to hear that ratings drop off after a period
of time, and 6 months seems a good amount. I was beginning to feel it was
rather .. uh.. "unfair" (as if first life was any more fair) that older accounts
with litterally thousands of rating points would be continously earning greater
income from a feature I could never take advantage of, since I don't know
many people that are going to pay L$25 for each rate point just to say
"your AV looks nice".

I'd be very curious to know what percentage of people are still planning on
using the rate system for legit purposes of "rating" and not using it as an
extra source of income. Of those people who are rating for legit reasons,
I'd be curious to know how many are newbies (under 2weeks) who might not
yet know how hard it might be to regain that "large" sum, how many
are 2-16 weeks - who have now with they had all the $L back from the
raitings they gave, as they're starting to get strapped for cash, and how many
are over 4-6 months old, who have probably found a good way to make enough
income to support handing out ratings every now and then.

as a newbie, it would be nice to be able to give a rating to those that help you learn. however with no real cash, having to pay for a rating seems unreasonable.

I'm glad the ratings fall off after a while, i racked up a whole stack of negatives in my first 1-3 days of playing simply because i had no idea what i was doing and what was appropriate! eg. people giving me gigantic penises and saying "here try this on" when im at slingo haha! i also got one or two bad ones for talking to girls i get along with really well because some guy rocked up who liked her and got jealous... hahaha how pathetic - its probably a bloke under that skanky outfit anyway! i dont get into the whole serious side of this game but i did think it was pretty slack on behalf of you oldbies for rating me based on that! well it's nice to know those early ratings wont affect my pay every week =)

see ya
