More accurately;
When you see a plot of land has "Traffic" of '1000', over what period of time is that count inclusive of, and secondarily, how do repeat visitors effect this count?
Thanks.

See: http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=traffic
Every user gets a set number of traffic points to give out during the 24 hours between midnight and midnight. Any parcel of land that the user spends more than 5 sequential minutes on gets counted as a place that they spent time. Seperate parcels owned by the resident (or group) are counted as if they were the same parcel. The user's points are then evenly divided between those parcels. So, if I was online for 1 hour and spent 20 minutes on resident A's parcel and 40 minutes on resident B's parcel, resident A would get 33% of my points and resident B would get 66%. Alternately, if I only spent 5 minutes online and spent all of it on resident A's land, she would receive all of my points. Those raw point totals are what is reported in the find window. To get from those to L$, we normalize the total against the total amount of L$ we are giving away that day (all L$ paid from traffic is taken from a shared "pot" ![]() |

The traffic number seems to be 1 per five whole minutes in each test I've done, except you don't give any traffic to your own land.
So if you spend an hour on someone else's land (or on group land) you contribute 12 points to their traffic. The stuff about normalising to the number of L$ might still be done (I hope not) but the hand out is $0 each day now. _____________________

My question is:
When you see a plot of land has "Traffic" of '1000', !) over what period of time is that count inclusive of; 2) how do repeat visitors effect this count? Since the wording of my initial question must have been vague, I will reword it and see if I convey what I am asking. If a plot of land shows traffic of 1000, is that measured over 24 hours, a week, a month? What period of time? My secondary question was answered. |

You can't add to your land unless the land is group owned. |

24 hours. You can't add to your land unless the land is group owned. Thanks, Kev. I'll have to look closer because I thought my land was carrying over from previous days. But if what you say is correct, then I must have been mistaken. |

Thanks, Kev. I'll have to look closer because I thought my land was carrying over from previous days. But if what you say is correct, then I must have been mistaken. 1 person could get a 1000 count by camping 1005 minutes. Or about 1 count per minute after the first 5 minutes on that land for that day. If people leave before 5 minutes, there is no gain to the count. |

If people leave before 5 minutes, there is no gain to the count. That doesn't jive at all with what Cory Linden said I will edit and emphasize the text. (From http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=traffic ) Every user gets a set number of traffic points to give out during the 24 hours between midnight and midnight. ..... if I only spent 5 minutes online and spent all of it on resident A's land, she would receive all of my points. Also, last night I went to a popular and active place. I looked at the traffic numbers off and on from 4 PM until about 5 AM game time. The traffic count never changed during that period, even though I logged off and on and emptied cache (which I don't think would have made a difference anyway) |

Traffic isn't measured constantly, it is calculated once a day and updated.
Therefore the traffic total you see for a parcel is for the previous 24 hour period. Traffic is updated once a day, for my plots it seems to be around mid morning SLT, somewhere between 6 and 10, not sure if this is for all of SL or if its done in chunks or the calculations roll across the grid. |

one observation I have made is that the traffic number seems to changeabout 9AM game time. This varies some but mast days its around that time.
