Hello All,
I'm fairly new to this game, but I'm already liking it enough that I plan on upgrading to premium and buying my own little first land through lindens. I saw that a few days ago some first lands were on sale, but I hadn't made the decision back then and now they are all gone.
I have several questions that I hope someone would be so kind as to answer:
- How often do first land offerings occur? (maybe measuring from when they are all bought out?)
- What kind of disadvantages are there to buying first land?
- Are these people who buy firstland all new users? I saw several for sale signs pop up on the first lands hours after they were bought. Are these land speculators?
- Are there any other specific tips or advices for things to watch when buying first land?
Thanks a lot ^_^

First land Program Information
01-02-2006 22:17
On this page (http://secondlife.com/community/land-getyours.php) you will find the following: From: someone Land: Get Your Land
Residents can acquire land in several ways:
First Land
Second Life's "First Land" program allows Residents to purchase their first parcel of land below the current market value. Parcels are 512 square meters and sell for L$1 per meter to those who have never owned land. Please note: First Land plots are subject to availability. A snapshot of the available land can be viewed by:
* Go into SL and click on the Find button * Select the Land Sales tab * Select "First Land" from the pull-down menu and hit "Search" * When you find a plot you like, teleport to it and buy it on the spot
You definitely want to take advantage of this program for your first land purchase. If you decide to not use the program and purchase land directly, you'll become ineligible for using later on (first being the operative word here), and this price is WAAAAY under market.
Enjoy!

I used this offer to get my first little piece of land... and I must say I have not regretted it for a single moment. It is nice to have your own spot for such a nice price and having nice people living next to you is also a nice thing.

There's all the time a LOT of first land on sale too, at least when you do a search in Find: Land for sale, and tick the first land option, you get a long list.... It's a great deal, though you might want to hop around a little to find that "perfect" spot for yourself. I have been on SL almost a year, and got my first land plot only a couple of months ago, so they're not all new, no..... I wish you luck with your land, it's great to own your own little place

Any tips: - Buying 'first land' is very cheap, you can actually make some L$ selling it later, of course being in premium costs money monthly. But then again, you get L$ 500/week, that's already worth it.
- If you want to live in a nice and calm place, probably you can forget the mainland. You'll be better off renting land on some private sim (there are several landlords with such offers.)
"The Bush Guy" case clearly shows that your otherwise okay or even nice neighbourhood can be spoiled by one person, and Linden Labs will do NOTHING to intervene. So if you want to take this risk, go ahead on the mainland. If not, rent some place in a private sim.

Maaya, twisted rumour and unsubstantiated water-cooler gossip has it that Thursday is the usual time for new first land to appear.

Make sure you research your sim and neighbors !

I would make sure that research your sim and the neighbors you will be living around. I for one have run in to so many situations where my views are conflicting with my neighbors ( building in other themes unlike your own, land barons that rent out properties to rude and unruly people) Make sure you plan on living in this sim for a duration because once you buy you might not be able sell that land for some time. Always research your land and neighbors get to know them and never expect anyone to conform to your vision, everyone has their own ideals and visions of what makes the Second Life complete..

Are there any plots in Blumfield and West Haven still available? These sims are entirely First Land plots.

Well those first land plots - you have to request them when you convert to premium, I believe. Lots of people may have converted to premium some time ago, and are looking for first land.
BUT - if you are interested in Blumfield and West Haven, and you have already converted to premium, I would go ahead and ask a Linden if you couldn't still have a plot there (assuming you haven't yet bought First Land elsewhere).
If you are looking in the list for first land, be sure to put "512" and "512" in the size and money spaces and bunches more will come up.
I wish there was a way that everyone knew that, rather than just getting lucky enough for someone like me to tell you. Until someone told me, I thought there were only ever a few available (when some were available). Turned out I just wasn't SEEING all of them.

So if you decide to go back to basic, sell off all your land holdings before you do. However, you can still rent from any number of people on a basic account, since you aren't owning any of the land.
