I recently bought some land to have more room for my store and gallery and it was set mature. When I bought it the mature checkbox was not checked in the land options even though it said it was mature. I thought this might clear but it hasn't. How do I get the land to switch back to PG? Why is it saying mature when that thing is unchecked? Any ideas? Thanks!

Sorry to tell you, but land is either Mature or PG. It can't be changed back and forth. I can see why it was confusing, but the mature checkbox doesn't have anything to do with whether the land is Mature. The checkbox is used to determine how the land shows up in Find. This allows you to advertise content as PG, even if it happens to be in a mature sim. But the sim is still Mature. That can't be changed.

There's is only one explanation around the reality Shack mentioned: that you didn't actually "buy" land, you rented it. Private Island owners have the option of changing the rating of their sim (at least there is a working drop-down box there).
As for the Mainland, unless it was a newly released region that had yet to be auctioned I don't know how this could have happened.

Ok that seems very silly that land owners can't dictate whether their land is PG or mature. Why is this something only the sim owner can do? That seems slanted to me.

E Wouldn't a PG plot in the middle of a mature sim be rather pointless?

So because everyone else around you is on mature land you have to go along with that? I bought the land, I should dictate how that land runs. E

Mature lands resells for a tiny bit higher than PG land, so sell your mature land, go buy some PG land of the same size. You should have a few L$ left over.

E However, since there are rules that you can't have non-PG imagery within views of a PG area, you would also be dictating how all your neighbors' land runs. Hardly fair to them, since they bought mature. If you buy on the mainland, there are restrictions as to what you can and cannot dictate about your land. For those who desire greater freedom, there is always the island option. If its that big of a deal, just sell it and buy in a PG sim. PG land is typically cheaper anyway.

E Sims are either PG or Mature. Setting plots on an individual basis defeats the purpose of even having a distinction. What good is it to have a PG plot when your neighbors are out walking around nude with their equipment hanging out right next door, or having graphic cyber sex, or putting up X rated signs with pictues of naked people on them...which people are allowed to do on mature land? Alternately, should someone be allowed to move into an otherwise PG area, and switch their land to Mature, and start doing the sorts of things that I mentioned above? No, the system works just fine the way it is. It wouldn't work at all the way you're suggesting. Instead, admit you made a mistake, ad if you want PG land, go and buy it in a PG sim.

E No one is making you build a BDSM club on your land, I personally don't see the issue. Mature is simply less restrictive than PG, so the real question is: why does it matter what the rating is to you? Pretend your land is PG, since you own it you can enforce any rules you want on that plot, so don't allow mature items on it, that's your perogative.

"So because everyone else around you is on mature land you have to go along with that?"
You don't build a sex shop next to a school. Just as you don't build a church in the gay village and complain about the activities around you.
If you want PG, PG sims are available (and are usually far cheaper than Mature for land). The sims are seperated and fixed like that so a PG household doesn't find the empty plot next to them suddenly turned Mature and made into a watersports (no, not windsurfing) fetish club.

You really don't specify what you intend to do with your lot. If its a business where you epect folks to maintain a certain level of 'decency' by your definition, have a pop up greeter notecard that explains this, including that naked slaves will be asked to dress or leave, etc. If its going to be your home, about all that pg means is that you aren't going to have sex balls and cyber in open chat. So what's the big deal?
In Caledon, the sims are rated mature but no one walking the streets would guess it because we maintain an air of victorian charm, cordiality and respect. But what goes on behind closed doors, well, that's what closed doors are for, right?
Now, if you want it to be pg and *not* have a rotating bdsm store's sign with a naked woman bound and gagged right next door, you're in the wrong sim and need to sell and move. This is one of those moments when one wishes one had done a bit more homework on the ins and outs of how land works before buying.
If you have more questions regarding future land purchases, decisions and/or management, don't hesitate to IM me in game and I'll help as best I can.
