Tier upgrade without warning or notice ??

I recently bought land and returned to "my account" to find my tier had been upgraded without notice.

At the same time I had a pricing error trying to price land for sale.

Has anyone else had their tier upgraded without "authorizing" it like before?

I believe this is a scripting error and at least if the "checkout" for land tier upgrade changed, there should be a notice - this is real $USD.

Please let me know if you find your land tier has been upgraded without notice.

Submitted ticket to billing@ secondlife.com - no response yet.

thanks,
Analogue

I've never seen this. Last time I bought land, the popups seemed quite clear about what my situation was in regards to current tier, tier after purchase and whether I would need to upgrade tier or not.

Billings seems like a good place to start.

If you don't have enough tier to cover a purchase, the new-look land-buying panel gives you a warning message that your tier will be automatically upgraded should you proceed - complete with a fancy warning icon to draw your attention to the fact.

There is no grace period any more.

By clicking OK, you consent to the auto upgrade.

Yup, I was bitten by this too :(

As the others have mentioned, there is no longer a grace period nor do you have to confirm on the website anymore.

The IW warnings are quite clear however.

Here's a recent announcement about how this works.

Which as far as I can tell, makes it impossible for two people who are at their full tier to trade land, without it automatically bumping them (or at least one of them) up for a full month's extra charge.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I can tell, that's correct.

Which makes an interesting business opprotunity for a _trusted_ land baron: "leasing" tier to groups for a few hours in order to facilitate such transactions...

You can do it with groups, since a group can hold land without the tier for a brief period.

Yes this is how it works now.
Before, you would have to go outside to secondlife.com login and upgrade your tier manually.
Please be advised land tier automatically increases from in-world.

Got prompt clarification from Jill Linden.

thanks everyone,

Yes, groups can hold it for a VERY brief period. Had someone leave a group today. Took out their 512 tier. WHich left the group 64 meters over. Couple hours after the person left I get on, see the problem and dump a small piece of land for well under the market value. Then when I go to look at the group sales info and the like, come to find out they billed the group just shy of 20K lindens. Which resulted in me having to kick everyone else out of the group and swallowing the hit myself. Gotta love it when LL bills ya over 60 bucks for about as many meters of land for a few hours. Heck, could have added two levels of tier for that much. Guess it just goes to show.

DON'T form groups with group land unless you're running multiple alts and doing it all yourself.
