3rd owner perms

I've been thinking about this for a while. I have people wanting to buy scripts to use in their items to sell and was thinking what we need is an added 3rd person perms system.

This would allow me to sell the scripts/poseballs/animations etc.. to someone no mod/copy/transfer, but set the 3rd owner to no transfer/no copy so the person who legally bought it couldn't give away the sets to all their friends to make furniture and it be all around SL in a matter of weeks.

I bet we would see alot more of the scripters and animators willing to sell to furniture designers if we had this. I'm not going to put this as a feature proposal until I see that the Lindens are even looking at that thing anymore.

What do you guys think?

This would have the same effect as my "wrappers" proposal, and there was a similar scheme also called wrappers described as "coming soon" by a Linden at one time.

this should go in the Feature Proposals forum.

This is a really good idea.

Interesting idea. but....

A possible problem with that is in the area of scripts (I don't know enough about animations to know if it applies to those as well). Even if the 3rd party perms where set to no copy/no trans, if the 2nd party can see the script (which having mod rights will let you do) then they can copy it.

It's just a simple matter of cut and paste. Copy the text from the script, then just paste it into a new script you created. Viola, full rights.

In fact, now that I think about it months back there was an incident where someone used a program flaw to steal scripts that were no copy/no mod/no trans. While the Lindens didn't say how they did it (for obvious reasons) I imagine it was something along these lines. They just found a way to see the script, which allowed them to steal it for their own use. (And ultimately got them sent to the cornfield where they belong!)

Zalandria's proposal was that the 2nd party got NO MOD rights. The only permitted action was copy.
