Couples: Group or Individual Land ?

Hello All,

I searched through forums here but didn't see this specifically addressed. I saw stuff on group ownership, but nothing that compared and contrasted that to more then one person owning land and not in a group.

My gf and I are fairly new to SL, we both have Preimium accounts. We were considering getting two first land 512 parcels next to each other and combining them into one in order to get the hang of this.

I assumed we would create a group, and each of us would join the group, and contribute each of our first lands to the group, however I see that the group requires three avatars :/

I'm not sure why they made the minimum three, but that leads me to believe there is another way for couples to handle this situation, I just don't know what that would be. We would like to be able to add and delete objects and control what others can do at the same time. Basically , we want to build a house together and decorate it. Possibly resell it and move up once we have the basics down.

I would guess this is not a new request, so any help is appreaciated.

Thanks,
Mac

I don't know why its three, but I think its just to cut down on overall group clutter. I'd recommend an alt (free account aside from your premium) of one or both of you join as members, that will make it 3 or 4 members..

Me and my fiance on sl have our land group landed..while I have a family group, our land is on the DHP (Dark Harlequin Productions) group. All dwell goes to the business partners and we can discuss business issues in private as a group. If you have land and a store later I recommend this approach.

Group land is a great way to go..if you and your fiance put your tier both into it, you get a 10% bonus on the amount of land you can hold (as long as its deeded to group). just be careful of who you make officer, as officers can sell the land at any time.

Changes are coming soon that will allow the formation of groups with only two members.

I was afraid of that, I hate to have to create alt accounts in "worlds" just to accomplish things that should be available with one. Seems to be a common issue with mmorpgs.

As I said, we're pretty new, so we don't even have First Land yet, but are looking, I wanted to hold off till I understood the permissions issue and group or no group decision, also I was hoping to find two plots next to each other in a mature place so I could see what was going to be around me, I haven't been impressed with what I have seen happens to the First Land areas so far. I think I would be more inclined to buy the first land area and just sell it so I don't end up next to a bunch of strange creations and huge for sale signs, etc. It seems that First Land areas are just sandboxes where people own the land and unfortunately the garbage never gets removed :D

So the idea was to get two FL's side by side and join them, it looks like your saying we might be better off donating both our 512 allotments to a group and then we would have 512 * 1024*2 = 1126.40 or 102.4 sq m more land. That's fine, but does that mean we as the group would be elevated to the 1/64th teir and have to pay the $8 usd a month ? If so, are we both required to pay it ? Is it automatically split between us ? I don't mind her getting a split of the profits, but I want to pay the expenses till we figure this thing out. Can we assign % profits and % expenses in the group if we go that way ?

No, you both set your contribution to group at 512 each... Edit/Groups/Land...
You'll also get the 10% group bonus, so your group can hold 10% more land than you are contributing in tier. Hope that helps :)

The extra 10% seems to be there to let you get land *out* of group again cleanly, without having to get more tier to do it. It's still annoying to have to slice the land up and transfer one slice at a time... it would be better to have a "transfer tier with sale" option for getting stuff OUT of group as well.
