I noticed a 256 m2 plot for sale in Zermatt on the edge of the Winter Festival plots. It's advertised as supporting 290 prims, but surely this was just a feature of the festival? Are these plots supposed to be sold anyway?

Oh, lord
![]() Perhaps it was placed on sale by mistake or there is another explanation. I shouldn't jump to conclusions since I didn't see it myself. _____________________

Who's in trouble? Seller or buyer

I thought the motto of SL was "Buyer Beware."
Sounds like this is a good example. _____________________

yes, true, but how often does a person see a plot of land for sell to "anyone", then buy it, only to have it taken away later?? i had not been playing much recently until the last few days, so i had no knowledge of the winter festival other than seeing it mentioned briefly a couple times. the plot was empty and surrounding plots were owned by people in game,so what is a person to think? i own land in Sistiana with 2x prim limit and it is very rare and valuable, and the plot in Zermatt is 5x prims, so i think a better motto might be "if it seems to good to be true,it probably is". in my opinion, this shouldnt even be allowed to have happened. its really no big deal to me,but just think if this was to happen to a very new player...what would they think, after spending almost half their $L(assuming they upgraded to premium) on what seemed to be land for sale just like the thousands of other plots they've seen for sale? with all the resourses and features in SL, how hard would it be for the Lindens to have it worked so that any land that is "temporarily" loaned, leased, or whatever, to ONLY be sold back to a Linden?

I have done that; bought land not meant to be for sale in first place. One time in Zermatt. The land was taken away from me; I talked to a Linden and they said I could ask to be refunded, but since the land in question had been public I had only spend 512L so I let it be.
Lindens clearly have a policy that when one claim public land one owns it, however, it seems like if a Linden has messed up, no policies apply. I think as long as Lindens act as players, same rules and guidelines should apply to them than to others. This particular place ,I had found 2500sqm public land. I was building on it. One week later I suddenly found all my unlinked objects had been returned. When asking about this, the reply was about : A Linden had accidentaly released the land and we claimed back it a few hours later. This was not the case though, I had owned the land for a week and paid tier for it. After a longish conversation I was refunded a minimal fee for the land, but no apologizies. From this thing I learned: A) Do not trust the Lindens ( since I had asked about this land from the Linden on duty and her reply was " Nobody will take that land away from you" ![]() B) Policies and rules are followed when it suites Lindens. If a policy is made that a Linden cannot follow, it is perfectly ok to break the rule C) Lindenlab has a bad customer service ( took back the land that was according to their policy mine, did not even bother contacting me before doing so) In your case I would suggest you contact a Linden on duty, save the conversation on a Notecard ( just do not send it anywhere ![]() Best would probably be trying to contact Colin Linden in game or by e-mail. |

There is a possibility to set it so that land transfers are not allowed. They use this in their attempt of zoned sims. I do not understand why they cannot use this in other sims not meant to be sold to other players than to those who the land has temporary been given.
Mistakes like this seems to happen each time they have some festivales; would be so simple to avoid it, maybe its just ignorance on their behalf. |
