Protected land is -never- meant to be up for sale.

You should assume that all the sims in the northern atoll continent will eventually be put up for auction.

And they aren't even real islands .. just lake bottom drug up as far as it would go to get it above water.

Talk about stretching a point to make a sale.

LL should not have sold protected land ... and I hope buyers are smart enough to know they are getting very little for their money and stay away in droves.

Beautiful lake turned into what amounts to a swamp ... ugh!

As for the Lindens following their own policies ... I wouldn't look for that to happen any time soon. Consistency is certainly not their middle name.

Edit: Oh, and I wouldn't hold my breath for an answer in the not-Hotline forum, either. They are very good at ignoring posts there they dont want to deal with.

Protected land is -never- meant to be up for sale.
This seems to be a missunderstanding based on the fact that the land in question was owned by "Governer Linden". Land owned by the AV Governer Linden is not "protected" - allthough many people think so. Land, that is really "protected" is called "protected land" in the description. It is rarely more than 15% of a sim. No fresh sim I know of, that is not 100% deep water, is "protected".

And what said land baroness did there is the same that nearly every auction winner does, when a sim is prepared for sale with some waterfront - given the oportunity. The auction price in this cases usually reflects the assumption that it is possibe to create island(s) (or in other cases: to enlargen a lake). If this is not done by the auction winner it is usually done by the later owner.

Actually, the land was labeled "protected" ... not just linden-owned. As is the remain sim that was the other half of the lake.

So the question remains ... is "protected" ... protected, or not?

Often the entire of a new sim is called protected land but it isnt really protected. It just means it hasnt gone for sale or auction yet.

The real protected land is that called protected land in sims where land has already been put up for sale or auction (yellow or purple on the map) or has already had some land sold on it.
This isnt an entire sim. Its roads, pathways. waterways etc.

When a new sim goes for sale yellow or purple, you will see what parts of it are really protected land.

So then what you are saying is that "protected" doesn't mean protected ... it only means "protected" when it is convenient for the Lindens ... or maybe a deep-pocketed land baron.

Thanks for the clarification. :)

"protected" or "not for sale YET" land
01-06-2006 16:28
the sim i am concerned about is Haploa. there is one big parcel of a bit more than 60k sq m. the name on the parcel is "Protected Land" and the description reads "Not for Sale." when i bought my 37k sq m next door, i thought this meant haploa was like the fill-in void sims created in the southern and western continents, including snow lands. That is, that they were set aside as protected land for boating, recreation, etc. since i was planning to build a beachfront (which has been mostly built now, 3 months later), having a recreational "protected" sim was and is important to me.

but it's linden lab's game and they get to change the rules whenever they like. it's in the TOS. ;)

The confusion usually arises because before the lindens have completely finished building a sim, they often call the whole sim "protected land".

Once plots are put up for sale on that sim (either auction or 1st land) you can be fairly certain that the land on it called "protected land" is really protected and will never be put up for sale.

I wish they would use a different name for the under construction land.

Yes it would be nice for us if they would describe them as "Undeveloped" or such rather than "protected."

Well, that's really very confusing because that would mean Colona was "not finished" for more than 3 months. And that Haploa is still "not finished" after the same amount of time.

I'm curious, are there still "protected" "void" sims in the rest of SL?
