Land Release Throttled at Last?

Take a look at the Auctions page - it looks like sanity has prevailed at last.

The huge number of sims on offer seem to have been withdrawn, at least at the time of writing.

Possibly now the land market will stabilise and some of the masses of abandoned land, much of which is blighting the landscape, will be slowly fed back into the system.
I wouldn't like to speculate as to what's caused this change of policy - just to remind LL that they were warned of the likely effects of uncontrolled land release...

Abandoned land? I don't think there's much/any of that. There might be empty land, but that means someone is still paying the monthly bills (tier) for that land. That is still profit for Lindens.

Wrong. There's an eyesore on a plot in the middle of my land, intruding on it actually, that belongs to Governor Linden and was abandoned about two months back that I've been trying to get something done about ever since. I'd cheerfully buy it - but no...

In another sim that I own a fair bit of there's Linden land filling up with junk...

Elsewhere I've seen several examples of this, some very large plots. The land is abandoned, under Linden ownership and it's not being recycled.

Possibly some genius thought not re-releasing it via the auctions would help control the current land glut? While continuing to have as many as 15 new sims on the block?
*shakes head sadly*

Oh, THAT thing!
I've had that (and actually, have one, still) on my neighbouring parcel. It is annoying.

I think once a person quits, Linden Labs gives them about 60 days to 'come back'. If they do, under the same name and account, they'll get their land and stuff back.

However, there seems to be some inconsistency, I don't know if this 60 days is automatically or only manually enforced (land clearing up, etc).

Interesting theory, but I'm not sure why they only have 5 auctions available at the moment.

Something is afoot, I bet.
