A friend of mine and I made a group to share land. The group (which consists only of he and I as officers, and a friend of ours as a member) has a total of 2048 m2 in Digeut. He contributed a 512 parcel, and I gave the rest. Will our land fees be split equally, or will I pay more? If our land fees aren't split equally, how can I make it where they will be equal?
Sorry for the length of this.
Just to clarify. There are two different concepts at play here: Land and Tier.
You pay for land when you buy it (a one time cost). You pay tier to LL on a monthly basis in order to use the land.
For a group to own land, the Land must be deeded to the group and a sufficient amount of Tier must be contributed to the group by its members.
Typically, what happens is that one deeds the land to a group and checks the box "Owner Makes Contribution with Deed". This means that 2 things are being given to the group during the deed. The
land is being given to the group, and because the contribution checkbox is checked, the owner also gives some of their monthly
tier to the group, so that the group will have enough tier to own it.
So, for example,
Person X deeds 512m2 to the group and checks "Makes Contribution with Deed". At the end of this, Person X has given 512 m2 of
land to the group
and automatically contributes some of their monthly
tier to the group--enough to allow the group to own it, which is slightly less than 512 because the group gets a 10% tier bonus.
Person Y deeds 1536m2 to the group and checks "Makes Contribution with Deed". At the end of this, Person Y has given 1536m2 of
land to the group
and automatically contributes some of their montly
tier to the group--approximately 1383m2 of their tier, which is enough for the group to own it because of the 10% tier bonus.
In both cases, the contribution of tier to the group is automatic because the "Makes Contribution with Deed" box was checked. If that was not checked, then the deed would most likely fail because the group would have insufficient tier to own the land.
Now, suppose that Person X and Person Y agree that they should each pay half of the montly tier. To do this, they will each have to adjust their individual tier contribution to the group on the group's land tab. Person X will have to manually increase his tier contribution to the group, while Person Y will manually decrease hers.
Before making these adjustments, Person X might have to increase his monthly tier level for his account. so that he will have enough tier so that he can contribute his part to the group.
After making her adjustment, Person Y might want to decrease her monthly tier level.
So, what happens exactly? If, in the beginning, Person X owns exactly 512m2, then Person X is not paying monthly tier because you're allowed to own 512m2 as a part of being a premium member.
If, in the beginning, Person Y owns exactly 1536m2, then Person Y is paying monthly tier at the 1024 level. Because the first 512 is part of being a premium member and an additional 1024 tier is needed to support 1536m2 of land.
If they want to split the costs. They each deed their land to the group with "Makes contribution" checked.
Then:
Person X goes to his account on secondlife.com and
raises his monthly tier level to 512. Person X then goes to the Land tab of the group and increases his tier contribution to the group to 1024.
Person Y goes to the Land tab of the group and decreases her tier contribution to the group to 1024. Person Y then goes to her account page on secondlife.com and
reduces her monthly tier level to 512.
At this point, they are both at the 512 monthly tier level. The group has 2048m2 of land and each person is contributing 1024m2 of tier to the group to support that land.
