I joined SL today and was unsure if the technical problems were the reason but is there no First Land.

I used the Find as instructed going to the Land Tab and searching for "First Land" but I got nothing found.

What am I doing wrong?

Yes it does! But, choose carefully if you have time to do a little shopping. Your first land will be more valuable (in terms of resale value) if it has any of the following qualities: by the waterside or within sight of it; flat; green; in a mature (as opposed to a pg) sim.

512m for 512L$ is an absolute bargain given that land sells for anything from 5L$ to 10L$ or more per sq m. You will probably get ppl 'offering' you a good deal for your land after purchase. If you are minded to sell up and make a profit don't sell if for less than it's worth!

Alternatively, if you're lucky and your neighbours are nice you might want to stick around with a ready made newbie community:)

Is there a way to when land is available, some kind of notification?

Like an email to the fleshy world?

And yet another question is there some kind of schedule of release, like the Great Land rushes of the American 1800's?

What often happens in areas where there's a lot of first land is land brokers show up offering below market rates for the land. Some newcomers jump at say L$2000 for their first land which they paid L$512 for when replacement cost may be over L$3000.

Before selling any land you might want to use the Find button and look through the Land For Sale lists at what the current prices are for land of the size and type you are selling.

I'd also recommend choosing carefully rather than quickly. Anything with water nearby and/or Linden owned land marked Not for Sale or Maintenance adjoining the land is good. I still own my First Land although I've expanded to adjacent plots as well.

If LL implimented a grace-period policy on first land, that would solve everything.
A new resident cannot resell a first land for 2 weeks.

Then again, land is only worth what people are willing to pay. If someone buys for $512, then sells for $2000 that's a huge profit. Not in the long run for seasoned SLers, but for someone new, making that kind of quick cash can be appealing.

We've got First Land now--in Huchu!

Come and get it while it's... not sure "hot" is the right word, but it most certainly is FRESH.

Yeah, I bought my first land today in Huchu and within five minutes the "used car salesmen" appeared. The were literally driving cars on the sim, speeding around like nuts...go figure.

The guy offered me twice what I paid and I knew what he was up to right away. In RL, I deal with people like this periodically. It is no different than in SL.

However, I was not too impressed with the first land offerings today so I sold it to him knowing he would mark it up within the hour. Also, I knew that I probably would not be given another opportunity to buy first land and I was okay with that.

But, I plan on buying something much bigger soon, so my first land was going to be something to just tool around with for awhile.

So, unless you are like me and are okay with making a very quick profit, be careful. As others have said, I could have gotten more but I was too busy doing other things and the timing was right for me.

BTW, I went to the parcel this afternoon and he had marked it up to L$3000!

There are slick players everywhere--in RL and SL. Make sure you are comfortable with a deal before saying yes. Incidentally, before he left, I asked him to also give me some rating points. It was the least he could do for me for giving him a good deal.

Bloop I saw those guys too.

They sped across my purchased land almost hitting me, pretty rude.

Maybe an abuse report would be suitable

Possibly ...of course, since I made a deal with the devil I would not feel comfortable doing so. However, if they almost hit you, then that might be a different story. Unfortunately, I noticed their "cars" speeding around after I had sold my land to one of them. Had I noticed it before, I would have said no since they were being reckless.

I'm all for flying, driving, whatever around at top speed, but I do so on land where there are few if any ppl on it AND it does not make anyone mad.

Does anyone have thoughts on this? I realize that this is just how newbies are treated when grabbing first land, but is it typical for the slicksters to be so reckless? Then again, what am I saying. They don't care about anything except the deal.
