Nothing between 0 and 512? If I was going to rent at the moment I'd be after a tiny plot for L$100 a week or less, doesn't matter what size - I'd be using it for servers.

Mel Interesting question. The way I see it there is no 'ownership' of land, merely rental in one shape or another. My reasoning is that even if you 'own' and island you are paying LLabs a monthly Tier. Call it service charge, but effectively renting as that Island will be taken back by LLabs if you don't pay your rent. If you 'Buy' property from one of the more established Landlord, you still pay Tier or 'rent'. I'm a little fuzzy as to the distinction between 'buying'/'renting' from them. I'm guessing if you 'buy' the land you get more privs to mod/build on the land? I'm not aware of anywhere in SL where you can buy Land without incurring some level of 'rental'. Even the 512 parcels come with a premium account subscription. Please someone correct me if I'm incorrect. L

I'm guessing if you buy from a dealer it's just the one off payment, you don't have to pay them any more - just LL.

Are you saying there are 'vendors' who selling land/property for a onetime only charge? Whether the 'monthly' payment is in L$ or $ doesn't make a difference to the 'renting' argument. It merely means you are paying in different ways. L

Sorry. I was responding to this: From: Leon Ash If you 'Buy' property from one of the more established Landlord, you still pay Tier or 'rent'. I'm not certain, hence the "guessing", but I'd think that the difference between renting and buying from a dealer would be that if you rent then you simply pay them, if you buy then they deed the land to you. It'd be a one time only charge to them, but somebody still has to pay LL and as the owner that would be you. Of course, I'm not in the market for much land for quite a while so haven't really looked into it and could be totally wrong.

Even if you 'own' land you are paying taxes irl. Call it a community service charge, but effectively you are renting as that property will be taken back by the government if you don't pay your tax. A little rl/sl food for thought: Irl, you can get a home loan, even with no money down, and the day after you close on it, what do you say when asked if you rent or own your property? No one calls it leasing it before the mortgage is paid off and the feeling of ownership prevails even if you only have a 1% equity in it.
