How lindex works:
Example:
Sellers:
260L$ / $1 : 1000000
261L$ / $1 : 100000
262L$ / $1 : 3000000
263L$ / $1 : 1000000
264L$ / $1 : 1000000

And a resident wants to buy L$ 75000,
market gives the resident L$ 75000 for 264L$/$1

Sellers(last view):
260L$ / $1 : 1000000
261L$ / $1 : 100000
262L$ / $1 : 3000000
263L$ / $1 : 1000000
264L$ / $1 : 925000
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestion: Dont give always the best rate
Example:
Sellers:
260L$ / $1 : 1000000
261L$ / $1 : 100000
262L$ / $1 : 3000000
263L$ / $1 : 1000000
264L$ / $1 : 1000000

And a resident wants to buy L$ 75000,
market gives the resident
80% of L$75000 = L$60000 with best rate(264/1)
10% of L$75000 = L$7500 with best rate - 1 (263/1)
6% of L$75000 = L$4500 with best rate - 2 (262/1)
3% of L$75000 = L$2250 with best rate - 3 (261/1)
1% of L$75000 = L$750 with best rate - 4 (260/1)

Sellers(last view):
260L$ / $1 : 999250
261L$ / $1 : 97750
262L$ / $1 : 2995500
263L$ / $1 : 992500
264L$ / $1 : 940000
----------------------------------------
minuses:
* buyer pays $284.5 instead of $284
plusses:
* Residents dont put L$ s to the market unconsiously
* L$ gains value
* Economy saves its balance
* Market stands more stable
* prices in game(land,vendor stuff etc) decreases because of lower risk of losing money at lindex sells.
*...

This post gets my vote as the worst idea of 2006.

Wow, what a terrible idea. I know you hate those guys that undersell you, but seriously, why screw the buyers?

Unfortunately, I don't think that this proposal will have any substantial effect upon sellers' pricing strategies.

It will. because people will put their $L s to the X L$/usd and X-5 L$/usd pool. They will not have to put to X L$/usd to not wait other sellers.
And please just dont put the highest rate as the default value to the box near "Exchange Rate in L$ / US$1.00:".

X: the highest L$ / $ rate.

I continue to disagree. What you're saying only true for some edge cases because it's still FIFO (first in, first out) at any given pricing point. The net result is that people will still price agressively to sell sooner, with little to no change in behavior.

Lawrence

If you follow that then why set a price at all if you're not going to honor it?

Just set a fixed rate and be done with it...

The rate is there because I'd like to sell my L$ for this much - and if you agree they are worth that - you pay it... goods are exchanged.

It's like shopping at a grocery store - If I buy generic brand corn flakes because they're cheap - thats what I expect to get.. not have x% of boxes swapped out on me at the checkout.

I want what I pay for - not an arbitary mish mash of whats there because Kelloggs is losing money.

It kinda negates what the whole idea is in the first place.
