Basic Account Stipends - Who the heck said they were leaving?

It's incredible how misinformation storm takes a small stream of confusion and turns it in to a huge river.

Someone, one day some time ago, assumed the basic stipends were going to be removed. And now everybody is talking about how things are going to be in SL "now that the basic stipends have been removed" (some of them say "... are going to be removed ... ", but it's got the same effect).

Not sure if others did this already, but I found this post dating from last friday [edit/ this post is supposed to be a very clarifying example of a correct action: ask lindens, and lindens officially reply]:

It would be of value for people to consider the effects fo such a change. As it would have been valuable for people to think about the removal of DI even though it had not been announced yet. Removal of stipends gauranteed, no. Removal of stipends possible in the future, yes.

I don't think people assumed the stipend had been removed, but were making a leap of logic given how communication is sometimes disseminated. Carl, for one, made use of some deductive reasoning and posed the question. No harm in that.

I think LL needs to clarify this. The $L50 per week stipend for basics has obviously been removed from the account information page. Was this just an error, or is perhaps Torley not kept in the loop about such decisions?

Torley also states that the $L250 referal bonus for refering basics is still in place. I clearly recall a post from last week where LL stated they were removing that bonus for basic referals. It has also been removed from the 'refer-a-friend' page.

I believe the 250 initial bonus is not for referring but rather when you create your own account you get an initial balance.

No I didn't assume basic account stipends and starting money were going to be removed--I asked. I noticed that on the SL website mention of the 50L/week stipend had been removed, then later that the footnote referencing that stipend had been removed.

Please review my posts; I asked both here and in the "Hotline to Linden Labs" forum.

I didn't say you started the assumption - in fact I posted your thread in the second life questions as the question and answer that should have cleared all this up.

And I'm not referring to any posts in other forum sections inquiring about this issue or posing "what if" scenarios based on this. It's obvious that there is some descripancy in the website regarding this issue.

But it's a whole different thing posting threads saying things like "... now that the basic stipends are gone... " as if it were fact.

I believe all your replys to my original post are valid. I just hope everyone understands exactly what I'm attacking.

I believe it was everyone's favorite trollboi, Business Mission, that assumed that basic stipends were kaput.
