Naw, Zuzi, these people would have the chicken on fire (in an asbestos suit, of course) doing cartwheels blasting "Smack ma bitch up".

"I hate all non realistic FOR SALE SIGNS"
Well, I hate ALL FORSALE signs. They are pointless. They clutter the otherwise virgin landscape and only serve to communicate redundent information. We KNOW the land is for sale because the <P> key tells us so. If we CARE about the status of that piece of land, we'll CHECK IT OUT OURSELVES!!!! When i want to buy land, I'll look for land. If i'm not looking I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT!!!! ... it's just been a really bad day ![]() ~Lefty |

The thing about for sale signs is that their existence forgives their creation. Until there's a rule or at least a note given with first land that says "FOR SALE SIGNS SUCK" they'll always be around. So people don't know better.
![]() I made my first L$ as smalltime landbaron, marking up small properties for significant margins. I'd plop an ugly for sale sign on it and profit, thinking (innocent newbie that I was) that I was very clever. In reality I was probably extorting people with ugly prims. ![]() I think many don't realize how positively (or negatively) aesthetics can impact the world. Because there's so much banality on the grid, initial impressions aren't necessarily the most awing, setting personal expectations low. So it's a values thing. People need to see beautiful builds and be taught to appreciate the elegance of an excellent neighborhood. |

I haven't had to many problems with the for sale signs, but those 37 prim spinning cubes of death have got to go. No reason for it.

Here is an example of why for sale signs are not needed.
The first attached pic is the land for sale shown in white on the map. My field of vision is shown as the white cone widening to the East. The second pic is my actual field of vision (with map closed) and the "land owners" in the view menu selected. The plots in gold are for sale. There are no for sale signs anywhere to be seen. Is there any doubt that land here is for sale? *edit. My mistake. In the second pic, there is a floating yellow for sale cube in the top left corner. It is approximately 256m away from where I am, too far for my normal viewing range anyway. This pic was taken at 512m draw (for this example), I usually run 224m draw. My not noticing it when I took the pic shows that they are not as effective as the seller may think they are. |

I haven't had to many problems with the for sale signs, but those 37 prim spinning cubes of death have got to go. No reason for it. I agree. A simple for sale is sufficient. I think the seller should be able to put up a simple sign for the simple fact that it will help attractive implusive buyers. Some who looks at the land for sale tab, or has the property lines on to see what is for sale is intentionally looking for land. But someone just flying by may never notice and never have interest w/o a little sign. _____________________

In my experience the "land for Sale" map is often hours out of date. It errs in both directions. If land is likely to be snapped up, relying on the map you'll likely miss it.
If it was more uptodate it would be much more valuable, but even then it couldnt stop wasted journeys to plots some inconsiderate person has set for sale, but at a price that means its not for sale. Do they do it to annoy? Are they lazy? Are they hoping for a moron? I understand dialling in a huge price, to protect you from ticking that box in error, but keep the box unticked. I see it too often for these all to be genuine mistakes, surely? |

In my experience the "land for Sale" map is often hours out of date. It errs in both directions. If land is likely to be snapped up, relying on the map you'll likely miss it. Back when the map last had texture problems and Haney was explaining why, I'm sure I remember him saying it was updated at 3 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day. I can understand it being a bunch of static textures updated in a batch fashion - otherwise, every time you opened the map it would effectively go through the work of creating 400+ mini-maps each time (and have you noticed what a performance increase you get when you turn off your one mini-map??!!) _____________________

Reading this thread reminded me I'd forgotten to put any For Sale signs on my land for sale for months now....
I usually put them up against the wall of whatever building I have on the land at the time. I never sell land "bare" any more a) because I can't pass up the opportunity to have fun building something to suit the land before I sell it and b) it helps the buyer see possibilities and they always have the option to get the building free with the land when they buy (if they IM me). I wonder if I do miss out on potential buyers because they see one lot of land with a house on it, amidst For Sale signs on vacant property, and think it's not for sale? Maybe it's time to go make myself an updated sign.... _____________________
