I get 200-250 L$ dwell for my empty, for sale lands daily. WHY?!?! Because people are coming to look the lands to decide to buy or not. AND LL pays me 200-250L$ for this DAILY.
Dwell is stupid. definitely more stupid than dev. inc. award. If a club owner wants money from the crowd than put L$1 entrace fee to your place.
Most people think Camping chairs are bad. "Pay money to people to create traffic." Yes it is stupid.
BUT LL IS DOING SAME. "PAY RESIDENTS FOR TRAFFIC".
dwell is stupid... need to remove it.

Paying money to people to create traffic isn't inherently stupid. Paying money to people to create traffic with no benefit to Linden Labs is stupid, but paying money to people to create traffic that is of benefit to Linden Labs (for example, attracting paying customers to second life by doing things that encourage paying customers to keep on playing and paying) is not stupid.

Dwell should only be shed by paying customers. Basic accounts that don't buy Lindens and don't rent land aren't paying customers, and shouldn't shed dwell... or at least shouldn't shed as much.

Perhaps dwell should be scaled...

Basic account: 1 point.
Premium account: 5 points.
Account holding extra Tier: 5 points.
Account bought Lindens in last month: 5 points.
Account member of landholding group: 1 point.
Account officer in landholding group: 5 points.

Add it up, once only per category, and scale the dwell that results.

As for you: your land not only encourages paying customers to play, it encourages paying customers to tier up. You actually DO deserve that dwell!

How many non profit help organizations would cease to exist because of removing dwell? Some of them rely on that plus donations to make their tier each month. I don't think removing dwell is the solution, but making sure the avatar is active before awarding it would help. Perhaps the avatar has to say something in IM or chat once every so many minutes. Or the avatar has to move a certain distance.

The point of dwell is to attract avatars to your land and keep them interested enough to stay there for an extended period of time. This is an incentive for people to want to be in SL. But how to do entice them into being paying members? You have to provide them things that they really want to have. And that can be a real challenge. Selling them a prime piece of real estate works very well, since they have to be premium and tier up to get it. But you can also get the same effect by offering items, avatars, etc, that they have to get L$ to pay for. Under this theory, adjusting the stipend on the basic accounts to a lower amount might be useful. Lots of theories, and most of them have the potential to be very good AND very bad all at the same time.

Dwell has an advantage stipends don't have LL can modify the amount paid out each night without causin an uproar to regulate the economy.(Now whether they've thought of doing that... lol)
