SL is a pastime that I enjoy, if I were in it for the money I wouldn't do it.
Incidently, I really like pie.

From: Logan Bauer Laundering stipends is a serious offense. Are you implying that stipends represent dirty money?!? People who think such thoughts will be burned at the stake - I'm reporting you immediately to Burke Prefect for the next upgrade sacrifice.

I suppose laundering isn't necessary.

I don't do commisions - don't have the time. As for the $500 stipend - don't need it, don't see it, don't miss it. Probably donate around 10x that amount to various instructors - events - contests and causes.
If I were given the option by LL to trade my stipend for say.. dunno ... 512 land tier that I'd probably not use - I'd make the trade

How many stripends? Premium or basic? The custom furry skins I make start at 6/60, but can cost a lot more depending on the job. I've gone to a basic account. I own an island, so people who complain basic accounts don't contribute to LL can bugger off.

Ive had 3 commisions to date The first paid 500 plus some free gifts.. but I could have charged more. I hadnt yet figured out the linden economy... and think Ive understood less since then going by the evidence... The next paid 1 Linden after I reminded the patron that 'commision' implies payment - but that led to another commision that paid 50. But which I havent dont yet. But if anyone wants to offer me 26 million lindens for some serious bespoke doodling, drop me an IM! But there is at least one other commision Ive been offered that I havent had time to look at. Im in the situation that I cant afford time to take commisions unless they pay more than my RL job, and am too busy IRL to spend time building up portfolio and skills to be able to take high paying commisions... Catch 22. If those replies are all honest, then well done guys! Im very very impressed.

my first commission ever paid in the 1-2 week category. it was a brutalist dark concrete house with green mullions.

I swear! It's not the stipends now that are causing any problem! It's the early millionaires, from ratings and bigger stipends and everything else, trying to unload it! Help them unload their riches at a good price! Give up your stipend! It's a worthy cause!
Y'all can't be telling the truth. Anybody paying a million Lindens for a commissioned piece would be nuts. coco

Since pretty much all of my projects are big and complicated, usually $1,500 to $2,000 worth.

From: Jauani Wu did you know some people make living working in the computer game industry? Which is what I thought you were getting at all this time (but reluctant to say, for some reason). Here, from yesterday, part of a post I wrote then but decided to save: So let's cut to the chase and get to what I think you may really be talking about: the difference between people who sell to other residents and those who also sell or primarily sell their services to outside entities, and get paid in U.S. dollars to do so.
By that definition, only those who have chosen to be in and accepted for the Developer's Directory would qualify as "professional." However, that would be a fallaciously narrow definition, as the I.R.S. would be the first to agree. coco

YAWN!!!! What is the point of all of these silly stipend threads? Linden Labs goes what it wants, when it wants to to whom it wants and all of residents better get the message.

Good. I would hope you'd consider those actually in the world as professionals, though I would add that those who engage only in the SL market are also professionals about it. Not only does the IRS never actually define the word "professional," neither do you. And anyone who hopes to be professional had better care what the IRS says, or they won't be professional for long. coco
