Is this one of those Catch-22 questions? ;)

While I am sure there are many who would gushingly answer "Oh yes! Yes! Yes!"... I think it's interesting that no one here has said so yet. LOL

The only real quote that comes to mind is this: "Never love a thing. It can't love you back."

When LL and SL proves it loves me, I might consider the concept. ;)

But...
* Deflating L$
* Continued griefer problems
* Lack of land tools
* Lack of group communications
etc etc etc....

What's to love?

Lots of good things on SL, for a certainty. Are they outweighed by the bad things and bad decisions? That's the question.

I love SL. I think that many are caught up in the political aspects of the community and focus a lot on what's wrong technically with the game based on their own individual experiences. I however don't really have any problems with it myself except for the occassional can't log in and texture rezzing issues.

But that does not spoil the experience for me. I can say that I truly love SL!

Grid just went down...again. But ya know what? I still love SL.

I also enjoy sticking pins in my eyes.

Interesting.

I like SL, not love it. Has a lot of potential, but I see it squandered - by its residents as much as by its creators. A number of Residents try so hard to keep the dream alive, and for that I stay - and now try to be a small part of that hope.

My love still resides squarely with Uru, and whatever future Cyan and its fans can create for it. Not that its had its own share of problems mind ya... ;)

Yup. Well-put. And I agree that residents squander a lot of potential here. But I see that in RL too... people wasting their lives away watching TV when they could be really acomplishing something with themselves.

I see LL wasting a lot of potential too by not giving people the tools they need to make SL better and by making decisions that are counter-productive to increased SL content.

Like you, I like SL. But my love for it ended about the 2nd time a griefer hit me and LL did nothing about it. Any potential of love flew out the window when I set up a group and found out I couldn't even contact the members without jumping through hoops and fighting dragons. Love ended when I kept being told lag was caused by user content when the data proved there were serious server-side issues.

My love disappeared the other day when two griefers struck YadNi's junkyard and even while the griefers were "apologizing" profusely to an off-site Linden and claiming to be newbies who didn't know the rules... they were still attacking people! The Linden was notified of this... and still took the sorry "oh, we need to give them a second chance" line. So what's to love here?

I'm not being negative... I'm being realistic. When people pay thousands of dollars a year for what is basically a "game" they have a right to excellent performance. Failing that, they have a right to at least some decent response and co-operation from the main company. Until we have those things, "love" might be a little strong to express my feelings. ;)

BTW, just for records, I knew as soon as I said, "No one here has claimed to love SL yet..." they'd come out of the woodwork. heh heh

Osprey! For shame! LOL :D

I LOVE Second Life.

Technically:
1 Some say it is slow,I am a software developer in RL too.It is incredibly fast for such a project, congr.
2 Some say grid is being offline too long during updates. I never saw such fast updates in other big projects. In software business putting a new patch takes 54 days avarage. Good work.
3 It is hard to support so many different systems for such a project. Again: you are doing great.

Professionally:
1 Managing the grid is a HARD job. During this time they are also managing all our necessary/unnecessary requests, in world problems, billing problems, stupid/necessary questions etc. Again: great.
2 They are reqularly reading the posts on the forums. Giving answers to the ones they think to be answered.
3 They are working with us to create a wonderfull world.
4 It is too hard to make happy 25000 people(my guess for active users in last 1 month), but they are successful on this too.

Personally:
1 Damn, when i create something in RL, like an art or a small ship or airplane model or when i take a photo and look at it i am being so happy. It is mine, it is unique to me. But here!!! I have my boat, castle, sword, I built them!!! my effects via scripts. I made them! They are unique to me they are my babes. And i created them how i like! This is wonderfull! A LOT OF FUN!
2 I met with NEW GREAT FRIENDS here, i talk with them for HOURS, we are having alotof fun, A LOT OF great memories recorded by snapshots.
3 I love when i see a newbie walking like a duck lol:) Hitting to the walls, They are so funny, newbies are little babies:)
4 Sometimes i am thinking i saw everything in SL every nice place, then i am flying and seeing a WONDERFULL building, i have never saw something like it in SL or RL(which is so hard to see). Exploring is never ending because everyday we residents are creating NEW WONDERFULL things.
5 List goes on:) I LOVE Second Life.

Thanks to gods:) Ops lol well, lindens.

Sl

I too enjoy SL, one can have alot of enjoyment if one stays drama free. I love the fact that one can test their building skills as well as their imaginations, and come up with some pretty cool looking displays.

The down side for me is, that to purchase an island is too costly. 1250? for putting some graphics on a grid. I believe if they were made a more reasonable amount, Lindons would find more people buying land.

My suggestion would be,,if one has to pay 1250 for an island, then it should come with a years free tier fees,after all..whats left for them to do in maintaining it really. They make enough off people who have premium accounts..who buy lindons, as well as tier fees. Giving people a break wouldnt be the worst thing..would it?

If islands were around the 600 range, that would put it up around 720-750 for canadians..who have to pay exchange on the US dollar..as well as those in Europe that also have to content with excchange rates. Not all of us live in the US.

Well thats my love and hates of SL :) Maybe it will turn more to the love side,,if changes are made.

Have a great day everyone,,am off to work..ugh.
