Newbie here again...LOL! I've noticed that FIRST LAND is scarce and all in grassy land areas. Does anyone know if there will be more choices for first land in the future? Thank you for your help in advance.

Thank you for your help in advance. Welcome to Second Life. First Land has been released very frequently lately with the addition of many new sims. If you dont find what you are looking for today, try the next day. ![]() EDIT: I just checked the FIRST LAND listings and there appears to be many grass parcels available. Look for Paranthrene - First Land. _____________________

There's tons of First Land today. Well, not literally "tons", I don't know how to weigh the ground, but... almost 400 parcels last time I checked. Which was 30 seconds ago.
![]() Hope ya find what yer lookin' for, VzNevada. Happy homesteadin'! _____________________

And look for ones in Paranthrene. From the photos it appears to be very green and grassy. _____________________

I actually wanted to hold out for either a water view (I know...impossible) or snowy land with snow trees. Is that impossible too for First Land at the reduced price? Thanks for your help ![]() |

Yes an effective way is to set your search params under ALL as follows:
Price <=L$ 512 Area >= sq.m. 512 And FIRST LAND dropdown ONLY shows a maximum of 10. Maybe this is not to overwhelm and confuse new Residents with choice... _____________________

Thanks for your help ![]() I doubt there'll be more snowy land because Heterocera Atoll (the continent up north) doesn't have that type of geography, unless there's SOME CRAZY SURPRISE planned. The snowland in SL is to the south of the map. What you can do, is purchase as nice a grassy plot of First Land up north, and then sell it for several times its price (do market research, be patient), and then use that L$ to buy snowland down south. It'll be more expensive, but if that's really what you're going for and you're determined, you'll get it. Something on the waterfront may be an easier bet since Atoll has all sorts of aquapaths, but those sorts of parcels tend to get snapped up really fast as you can imagine, just like equivalent offline property. _____________________

GREAT help...one more question...LOL!
11-16-2005 04:08
I'm finding it hard to understand the name terminology and the map areas. Being new here and trying to first find out how to get around...now I'm trying to understand where I'm going and what the best places are. How are the names of lands figured out? How do we know which areas are the best? LOL! I really need to thank whoever can answer this in advance. I have to leave for work now. Thank you so much for helping this newbie

Thank you so much for helping this newbie ![]() If you spend a lot of time in SL, you may naturally suck this all up like a giant vacuum cleaner over the ocean. ![]() The confusion can be part of the fun. Give it a few weeks, months even, and you can be amazed and what you learn and experience here! Names of sims (short for "simulator", or square on the map, or Region) are listed when you click that MAP button. When you zoom in really close or let your cursor hover over one for a bit, you'll see the names. Names go in different themes—up north, they're mostly moth-related. It used to be an undiscovered place before the expeditions of Magellan Linden, and you can read the blog with more info. The best land for YOU is just what you're comfortable with! You already said you were interested in waterfront, so it's easy to check on the map and look at the pictures. I took a look for you... Clearwing (click on that and it'll either start SL, or if SL is already open, it'll highlight the area on the map with a red circle) had a few waterfront First Land parcels, but like I suspected, they were all taken really quickly. Sometimes ya just have to be patient, but that's okeydoke, take things at your own pace and enjoy living your Second Life, as is commonly said around here! ![]() _____________________

The best way to find out if you like the land is to just go there and visit. Get a feel for it and see who else is around you. There are no "best" or "worst" plots, just different types of land for different people. I love snow, some people hate it.
And don't forget, if you find a nice plot in the middle of an open field, there are likely other First Land plots all around you so it won't be an open field for long. Good luck! |
