If you sell Lindens and get real money for them , Then you pay taxes just like nomral.

As long as they are just a number inside a computer program (ie your in game bank account) you shouldnt have to.

The original complainer on this issue seems to have a serious case of sour grapes, judging that they are extremely upset over losing the ratings based stipend bonus.

If the original complainer on this spent HALF as much energy creating a little bit of content, they would make more money then they lost on stipends rating bonus'

As to whether Linden$ sellers report their taxes - well if they do or dont thats their problem. They know they should. Just liek any E-commerce / Ebay / paypal type tansaction.

Or should we go and start spying on all tipped employees in America? Id bet every Linden Dollar I have theres more than 100 times as many tipped employees who under-report their tips than there are Linden Dollar sellers not claiming their SL related earnings.

On a side note I wrote and now maintain the software that does the W2 filing for my state, and if Linden Labs choses to assit is user's comerce platform by providing W2 reporting services, I would be happy to help in that endevor for a much more resonable fee then you would get from a tax processing or computer consulting center.

But you know what'd happen. You'd write the application with input from LL, you'd test it for a year at your own expense, then they'd hire some kid to copy it and call it their own...

Am I getting too synical in my old age?

I read the thread with interest as I had been thinking about this myself. I happen to agree with Colette on the responsibility of individuals to comply with tax law as regards to $L converted to any recognized world currency.

Then I got to the end and just had to laugh. Way to lose the thread with a threat followed by an implicit extortion demand.

As I look into the parking lot outside my school, I wonder how many of the automobile owners when driving in this morning used their turn signals, came to a full stop at stop signs, and yielded right of way when entering the highway.

Show of hands. Anyone?
To be honest, I'm certain a rare few have, but the majority?

As a former official meter reader for the City & County Office of Revenue, I've decided it's my civic duty to report the possible multiple counts of traffic violations by car owners in that parking lot.
