Dwell $Sink

I had posted this deep in another thread but thought it would be more appropriate here.
Everyone that logged on and spent the required dwell time on anyones property would pay a 1 time per day fee of $L10. This $L10 would be split up according to how many places they were that day meeting the dwell time requirement. Linden land time would not count towards these totals. If you spent all your time on your own land you would get your money back.
Dwell would not be percentage based. if a person spent 50% of their time on your land you would get 50% of their fee, or 5 dollars. All the player time on your land would be added up and paid daily as now. Any percentage of a Linden under a full dollar would be thrown out, rather than rounded up, a further money sink.
There would be an option to turn off paying the daily $L10, but if you did you would not receive any dwell payments for your land and you would lose half your ratings bonus.
This system would:
a. Prevent Alternate dwell money abuse. b. Pull a major daily infusion of newly created cash out of the system. c. Allow people to opt out of the dwell system. Dwell system should be off for fresh newbies, to prevent them having to pay with no income until their ratings level makes it more lucrative to switch it on. d. Allow land owners to still receive monetary compensation for interesting content.

good idea..
it wouldn't become active for lifetime members until after their account is receiving at least 100L stipend per week

Interesting idea. not sure if it's good or not.
It could hurt places that depend on dwell from newbies. Places like Yadni's Junkyard, GNU Wave Architects, and Free Bazaar. But it could be good overall because it isn't clear that newbies spread their dwell appropriately. As a newb, I checked out places that already had high dwell, thus adding to their already high dwell without any intention on my part.
With alt accounts, it would be easier for me to put dwell where I want it. I could use an Alt that opts out of dwell to go places that I don't want to give dwell to, and use my main account to go to places that I do want to give dwell to. Again, not sure if this is good or bad.
Good that it prevents people from gaming dwell with Alts on their own land. So far, I can't see a hole in this part.
Doubt its effectiveness as a sink. I mean, I'm still not convinced that this type of sink would be helpful in strengthening the L$. If that is the intent. Anything that takes L$ away from the average person could weaken the economy by reducing the amount they spend on in-world purchases. It's not clear that they would be motivated to buy L$ through GOM. They might just spend less, which would be a bad thing.

Your going to take USD from me, a player, for every ten minutes I stand on some parcel looking at a purple spinny rocket ship? Right. Sign me up for There, they'll have scripting eventually. lol

From: someone because it isn't clear that newbies spread their dwell appropriately. uh i dunno if there's something wrong with this statement but it sure looks bizarre to me. i'm supposed to "spend" my dwell "appropriately"? i kinda thought i was supposed to have a good time and do whatever i wanted and at the end of the day if someone got dwell off me then lucky them. since dwell translates to "hanging out somewhere sometimes" who decides what an "appropriate" use of my dwell is? if that use involves changing my behavior in the slightest then that appropriate use can do something very inappropriate to me.

From: Zuzi Martinez who decides what an "appropriate" use of my dwell is? You do.

if it's up to the individual then there is no inappropriate spending of dwell. dwell isn't even something i spend. it's a reward you get for me being on your land. you got to buy my dwell by having something worth seeing. doesn't matter if it's a game or shopping or just your sparkling conversation. if there's no reason for me to be somewhere i'm sure not going to waste my time dwelling there for a few L$ a week. seems like to get anything out of the dwell system you'd have to sacrifice every ounce of fun anyway. like me and my roomies have a group and own land. we get about 1500 dwell points or whatever each week which is pretty good for a plain old house with no events or shopping or sex. well there's sex but it's not for sale. but compare that to the top 10 list. last time i checked #10 was like 4500 dwell and they're working for it. anyway all that dwell gets me about L$5 a week. whoopee. the way i see it i can have fun in sl or i can make dwell worthwhile. hard choice..... (no it's not hehe) i don't see the issue even when US$ gets mixed in. how much dwell would i have to make in a week to make enough L$ just to pay off my $9.95 a month not to mention what i pay for land allowance? not even worth it. relax, have fun, stop worrying about numbers.

Better to not take money away from each player, but insted give them less in their next stippend. But I'm not sure about this idea. I'll have to think on it for a bit...

seems like eating people's stipends or whatever is a good way to make people stay home.
"hey want to come visit me?" uh... why don't you come visit me instead? "i...can't..." you can't? "i'm...stuck on a cube. it's a bug. yeah." dude... that's pathetic.
seriously it's psychologically different doing it that way. you're not giving someone money, they're taking your money.

Its a good Idea I like it it has spurned some additional Ideas which I will post about shortly.
However an opt n and out system would be great.
More to come latter on.
