Not sure if this is the right place to ask these questions, but here goes: Some friends and I are thinking about buying a private island/sim, with the intention that a large percentage of it be fairly deep water, with a few "islands" of land, and quite a bit of aquatic-based development. Since we are in the early feasability/planning stage, I was checking out the SL wiki specifically about private islands. I understand the financial aspect of a private island, but am looking specifically for detailed info on the 6 "predesigned templates" that are mentioned in the wiki article on private islands, plus info on the Photoshop RAW procedure.. We have some detailed ideas/images of how we want the sim to look and would like to be able to plan better for applying this look/feel to a sim prior to going any further down the road to purchasing a sim.. In other words, if the info is not available until/after purchase of the sim, we would probably reconsider the project. Any pointers to other sources of this info besides the SL wiki would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tas

Best thing to do is to email the Concierge with your questions. Private sim owners have the Concierge as a special resource specifically to answer special questions and to give you priority access to technical support. concierge@secondlife.com

Hi Tas, I own and have owned private islands. You can do a lot with terraformability. My only concern is your need for "fairly deep water". There is a depth limitation, I forget the exact number, 20 meters pops into my head. At any rate, yes, email the concierge and good luck to you !

On a private island the land height can be modified to + or - 100m. Water level is at 20m. SO yes you can get some pretty deep water. WE just sunk our entire island to 5m so that we could build Venice so it is possible. Hope that helps.

If I am remembering correctly, you can not only move the land +/- 100m, but you can also move the water height upto 255m. As far as the RAW files go, http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=RawTerrainFile is the best help that I can suggest.

Yes you can change the water hight. But the empty water sims around the island will and are set at 20m so a change in water hight will show gaps. I just did it 2 days ago on 5 sims to find out it looked bad : ( so I set it back to 20m

Thanks, everybody!!

I'll email the concierge.. Hopefully they'll respond to someone who's not a private island owner/co-owner (yet.. hopefully!!!) .. One of the items this potential private island will house is an underwater habitat/club, which I'm building at my much-too-shallow parcel in Vashti. The habitat is approx 8m tall and the most I've been able to t/f the Vashti lot from its 21m surface is down to 13m, and with the habitat 8m high, I'm barely under the surface of the water.. To get all of the cool features I have in mind, I need at least 30m deep water, and about 3500 s/m.. This build is intended to be one of the cornerstones of the future private island. If anybody'd like to see it, you can see the small/shallow version of the place at Vashti 181,194,21

As mentioned earlier, you can definitely set the water height to be higher than 30m. I drowned mountains on my island when I first got it, for fun. :-) But, the water in adjacent sims, if you can't control it, will be set at the default 20m.

I was seriously considering building a ruined, underwater city....may still do so at some time. (Cthulhu f'tagn!)
