On Feb. 25th, 2005, Edward Castronova will be speaking at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He is the ranking authority on Virtual Economies. A professor who is now working at the University of Indiana.

If you have any interest in Virtual Economies, I suggest you get your name on the list, book your hotel, rental car, and/or airline flight to attend this event.

ABA Intellectual Property Law Conference (April 14-16, 2005)
Command Lines (UW Milwaukee, April 28-30, 2005)
E3 (May 17-19, 2005)
Spencer Foundation Summit on Education, Technology, and Games, UW-Madison (June 23-26, 2005).

Those who don't know about Edward can start reading his Papers on Virtual Economies. Good stuff, but don't read while operating heavy machinery. :)

Just got back word from NIST. To register for this event, you need to do the following:

Send email to: florence.parkhill@nist.gov and include your Name, Address, Employer, and US Citizenship status. Then you'll be good to go.

I'd love to go, but what's this about US Citizenship status? Lectures about virtual economies are not accessible to Canadians?

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) work hand in hand. And anybody showing up at the doorsteps of the NIST building in G'Burg, Maryland need to identify their Citizenship status. Knowledge is power my friend, and events on Uncle Sam's property require identification. Its not that the conference itself is in question, its the location its being held at.

probably the issue is that US taxpayers pay for it. if you're not paying US taxes you probably shouldn't get a free ride..

"US Citizenship status" sounds a little strange to me. Are you sure that they don't just mean "tell us if you are a US citizen or if not, your immigration status?"
