Hi all!

I've been playing for about 2 weeks now. I got hooked and subscribed. :)

So I've been playing with textures, objects, and scripts, and managed to build some computers and monitors with custom textures. However, I'm sure I've overpriced them! ;) It seems that both land and services have fairly consistent prices, but I haven't found a good way to price objects yet.

So my question is: How does one go about determining a fair price for an object? Comparison, value, worth, aesthetics, etc...?

Curious to see how others are thinking this through. Would appreciate any insight!

Thanks,

A price is a bit of significant typeface signifying an interchange between a willing buyer and a willing seller.

Make something and put a price on it calculating actual costs. Most times, in SL, you can't bill for your RL hours, so like prims, you almost have to keep that cost out.

If you find people to buy it, you found your price. You have to experiment. I often tell people not to be afraid to make something and sell it because I find even the most ridiculous stuff I've made actually sells in this game because there is always somebody who wants to click on something and buy it if it is only $10. A low price will ensure that happens. A higher price will ensure that you feel so much better when it kachings into your box.

Start by looking for similar items on the market and getting a feel for what the range of prices are. Then charge what you feel might be slightly too low. If nobody buys, then lower your price more. If you get a flood of buyers, raise your price. Easy.

Wow, that was quick :) Experimenting looks like the best path to take. I figure I can start with low prices (to pay for texture uploads) and move up from there. I'm not planning on making millions here so that should work for what I'm doing :D

Thanks a bunch!

Captain, the best advice I can give you is to do a little benchmark research.

Using an online mall (like slexhange.com, slboutique.com, or secondserver.net) to compare prices is usually easier than running around in-world, and less time consuming.

Look for items similar to the ones you are selling. What price have they been set at? And what is the quality of those particular items? Also, take into consideration the cost of actually having to upload the textures.

I usually price things by how much work it took to make it. If it's a coffee table that I put two prims together and textured then $25 bucks. But if its a game that I had to build, script, make animations for then like 2k. They way I figure it, most people can put two prims together and make their own coffee table. However, complex builds, animations, scripts take more skill. So the fewer people that could recreate my creation the higher my price goes.

I'm scripting them for video right now. I'll post my adverts in the classified forums, since this thread isn't the place for that ;)
