Here's an interesting land scenario. I owned 1536sm in Koss and decided to sell it. I was in the process of subdividing it into 512 lots when I lost my connection. When I logged back in, 2/3 of the land was owned by an account that I've seen owning a lot of for sale land lately as I've looked for lots to purchase.

I can only suppose that the land got released as I was subdividing (actually joining sections of it) when I got disconnected. The funny thing is, when I attempted to contact the current owners, there's no profile for them. How do we maintain accounts with no profile? I didn't know that was an option. Can anyone enlighten me?

Khamon,

Always set your land to sell to YOU for $9999999 before subdividing/joining.

Saves no end of trouble.

Good luck!

Bob

Well now the profile is visible. Maybe it was just that same old bug that was arbitrarily hiding profiles several months ago. I hadn't seen it since then and just assumed it was fixed. You so silly Khamon.

For the record, the finder of the public land offered to grant it back to me. I turned him down in favour of buying another parcel I'd found. It's was more economical to sacrifice a few lindens than to pay for one massive tier jump.

Oh I see, I did sort of mention your name. Sorry, I meant to just copy the name of the sim, not the coords. Wait not Wu, it wasn't Wu. I'm not talking to Wu now. Okay Khamon's just not gonna say anything else the rest of the day no not one more word this is totally the last thing I will say today right.

i'm pretty amazed by this bug. you really shouldn't have to lose your land like that. did you check your transactions to see if you had not actually had it for sale by accident?

bob, have you seen this before? just asking because you didn't seem surprised.

in case anyone is wondering who the person who picked up the land - it wasn't wu.. i mean me. :)

Actually it is farily common when you join land. I can't seem to figure out which parcel it favors in the join, but the joined parcels gets all the characteristics of one of the parcels. Same name, same descriptiong, same price. So if you join two 512 for sale, the 1024 will be for sale at the same price one of the 512's was at. This means you are halving the price of the land. I've started to add a bunch of 0's when I join land, in case someone catches the land before I can raise the price.

The entire 1536sm parcel was set to sale for 3500L. I decided to divide it into three 512sm so I started chopping and joining sections to that effect. Each subdivision retained for sale status at the original 3500L price. I assembled one 512sm segment that was still intact and for sale when I logged back in. I was just subdividing the larger section when I got disconnected.

When I reconnected, the larger section had gone public. I know this because I had no money from a land sale and the person who claimed it confirmed it.

I didn't think to report it as a bug but will do next time I'm inworld. It may be something they can reproduce and isolate.

Yeah, that is definately a bug. If you didn't hit release, I don't think it shoud be released as public. The other time land goes public I believe, is when you don't accept a higher teir fee. I think that takes seven days though, and you wouldn't be able to set a sale price if that happened. I would try to contact a Linden as well as a bug report. It is a bug that caused you a loss, the TOS doesn't require them to give you payback, but they may still help you somehow make up for the loss.

Oh lordy yes, I ALMOST learned this the hard way a few days ago. Was dividing my land and some land lady 'swooped' outta nowhere and says I'll buy at that price. The price being 2.2sqm. While she was in transit it had occured to me to change the land sale price to 100000000, so she was confused by the price change when she arrived. Hehe I had no idea how fast that could happen. Whew

This has happened to me WAY too many times! People want te sell a 1024m lot to a friend for $1, yet they let it sit for 10 mins. People, *****PLEASE PUT IN A NAME TO SELL IT TO!!!!!!****** I usually buy first, ask later. If the land sale was a mistake, 100% of the time I *do* give it back, usually with a L$5 fee or something. :-P
