Greetings! I've been selling cars in SL for awhile now, more for the fun of it than to actually profit, but I've had some trouble finding a good way to manage my sales, locations, etc. I started out with an Excel spreadsheet, then moved to an Access database, but I'm not really satisfied with either one.
I want to be able to see who bought what, from where, how much they paid, and maybe a couple other fields (are they active SL members still, are they members of the owner's association, what's their key, etc). I have only a basic knowledge of database design, so I was wondering what y'all use to keep track of this information? Any recommendations?

LL keeps track of all your transactions. You can find the link on your account page. As far as getting further data, I think most people use the LL Scripting language: http://secondlife.com/badgeo/wakka.php?wakka=HomePage although what they do with the info once they get it varies widely. If you're savvy, you can set up an external database to transfer data. If not, you can download the transactions from your account page and import them into a spreadsheet. You can try these threads as well for more info: /54/1.html/15/1.html Peace, -Hunter

I've been using OpenOffice spreadsheet to track sales, with an extra field for location, and the feature called DataPilot (what Excel calls Pivot tables) is very useful for seeing where sales come from, what sells well etc. If you're not familiar with that I'd recommend searching for tutorials on Pivot tables on the web. As for account status and other SL-specific data, that won't work without tying your application to some reporting script in SL.

I'll contact you privately next time I'm on, Zack. Jackal, I keep track of customers' account information manually, I may automate it at some point but my sales volume doesn't justify the additional effort at this time. I may switch back to Excel, I was just hoping for something a little more polished, or perhaps a database app that someone else had made. Thanks for the input, everyone
