I keep trying to buy land through for my group through the About Land dialog. I click on the Bur for Group... button and I get this info... That I enough money and all but when I click the purcahse button I get this error and the purchase fails:
"Land transfer failed. New owner has insufficient land maintenance credits."
I do not know what this means but I do know that I have:
16416 total sqr meters in this group 14,930 sqr meters holding 1454 -the extra 10%
1024 sqr meters is the land I am trying to buy
What the hell does this mean? I could buy the land and donate it but what the hell is this route for if not to buy for the group directly?
When is Linden Labs going to make this easier to understand and a manage?

Buy for Group will attempt to purchase the land for the group you have active at the time. Have you checked to be sure that you have the proper group set as your active group? Note that we're all in a group called None and it's possible to have that set as active by default.

You have to be a premium account holder to buy land - even if your group members have donated the tier to teh group you are in. Give the cash to a tiered member and let them make the group land purchase

Self answered question, one can assume that I am a premiere member as i own 16k+ land and was able to make a group.
And yes I have the group selected as active that I am trying to buy the property for but I did not know that the none group was active by default.
But to be clear I have the group active that I mentioned above owning the land that I am trying to purchase for, is this a bug?
I ahve a concern and a question: I am worried about buying land and then donating as I do not want to pop above my tier and get nailed for the extra that I get do the 10%.
Most important, I need to know how to do this not find a work around.

It sounds as though you're doing everything correctly. The next best measure is to open FIND, search for Lindens online and grab the nearest liason to come and help you.
At the risk of being struck by a hurled prim rock, if you are donating the tier, you can pull it from the group, buy the land, then deed the land to the group with the "owner makes contribution with deed" box checked.

Well I figured out what the problem was...
I had not set the the amount of contributed land credits high enough. This is the field that is at the bottom of your Group's dialog > Land Tab. This tab shows you how much land is in the group and where it is located. It also, at the bottom, has some numbers about land totals that do not make a lot of sense until you get the contribution correct.
I use the word 'correct' loosely since in many ways I do not get what this setting is for, in my case I needed to set it to my tier level plus the free 512.
An example: my tier is $75 bucks a month for 1/4 sim, 16,384 sq. meters plus the 512, that comes out to 16896. So that is the number I set the to be the Contributed amount. It now works.
Bottom line: My feeling is that the group land interface is too complicated, too obscure, too serious (large financial mistakes and mishaps can happen) and way too under documented. Too many different things to control on one issue in way too many dialogs.
